Why was FEEFHS created?
Latest Update: 4 May 2002
The map of Central and Eastern Europe map continues to fragment
within modern political borders and then coalesce along older
ethnic or historic borders. As a result, large ethnic
minorities exist in every Central and East European country.
The fall of the "Iron Curtain" has opened exciting new
possibilities for genealogical research. But complexities arise
from past and present border changes. They have created
difficult record access problems. This in turn makes East
European genealogical research much more complicated.
A multi-national group was needed to solve the challenging
genealogy problems presented by the many national borders and the
incredibly diverse number of East European languages.
The Federation of Eastern European Family History Societies
(FEEFHS) was established in June 1992 at Seattle Washington to
help solve these problems.
