Why was FEEFHS created?
Lecture 1 of 4 on FEEFHS

Latest Update: 8 June 1999
Webmster's Note: This is the the text of the lecture,
given in 4 parts, on 6 June 1999 in the enhanced chat room of the
ROOTS genealogy group of AOL by John Movius, FEEFHS
Webmaster
The map of Central and Eastern Europe map continues to fragment
within modern political borders and then coalesce along older
ethnic or historic borders. As a result, large ethnic minorities
exist in EVERY Central and East European country. Its a fact of
European life, as well as life in the Balkans.
The fall of the "Iron Curtain" in 1991 opened exciting new
possibilities for genealogical research. But complexities arise
from past and present border changes. They have created
difficult record access problems. This in turn has made East
European genealogy and research much more complicated.
A multi-national group was needed to solve the challenging
genealogy problems presented by the many national borders and the
incredibly diverse
number of
East European languages.
The Federation of Eastern European Family History Societies
(FEEFHS) was
established in June 1992 at SeaTac, near Seattle Washington to
help solve
these problems.

California
IGS is sponsoring Henning Schroeder of Germany in 4 lectures that
Saturday, 25

In fact I
will be the luncheon speaker that day - talking about the impact
of Y2K and
viruses ion genealogists. By the way, Henning Schroeder will
also be speaking
for FEEFHS the next day - Sunday. His lectures will be posted on
the FEEFHS

On Thursday 23 September GCRA will sponsor its first confernec.
GCRA is the
most active of the many Germans from Russia genealogy groups.
Outstanding speakers from Canada, Germany, Russia and the United

from the
lecture prgram page at this URL:
http://feefhs.org/donf/99la/lectures.html
Most speakers will also provide "Brick Wall" mentor assistance
after their
lectures at round tables in the center of the vendors room. So
its wise to
bring the details of your problems - they just might get
solved.
In addition, it will be the first time to see many vendors in the
Vendor Room.
Some will not be at the Pasadena Jamboree next weekend.
