WHAT IS FEEFHS?

Latest update July 2004

FEEFHS is an acronym for the Federation of East European Family History Societies. It
was founded by Americans and Canadians representing a handful of genealogical societies. It has expanded to include membership worldwide and contacts with over a hundred organizations.
FEEFHS is a hybrid federation which welcomes both organizations and individuals are welcome to join as members.

FEEFHS objective is to serve all ethnic and religious groups and genealogists with interest in tracing East European ancestry.

FEEFHS was organized in 1992 by Charles M. Hall, who conceived the idea of a genealogical federation concentrating on East European research. He assembled leading genealogists with East European expertise and language skills as well as other specialists: cartographers, archivists and historians to assist in achieving the Federation’s goals.

FEEFHS Executive Council governs the Federation. It is comprised of the four officers, plus the secretaries, treasurer, the past president, the second past president, the appointed journal editor, online newsletter editor, and webmaster. The Federations’s Constitution requires that at least one officer is a Canadian and at least one officer is an American. The Council provides ongoing bi-national leadership and coordination.

FEEFHS Board of Directors consists of representatives from each member organization. It helps guide the efforts of the Federation.

FEEFHS issues an annual journal, maintains a website, and hold an annual conference to accomplish it’s objectives.

FEEFHS is incorporated as a Utah non-profit educational corporation with a bi-national (America and Canada) Executive Council in charge. Submission for U.S. Federal non-profit status [under IRS section
501 (c)) is expected in the future.
