Background and Holdings: Established in 1932, the Danish Emigration Archives at Aalborg holds the emigration records from Denmark covering the period from 1869 to 1940. The records from 1869 to 1904 have been computerized. They are now working to extend this to include the years up to 1940. These include Danes, Germans and others who departed from Copenhagen for North America, South America or elsewhere during this period.

Research Assistance: The database is not yet available online. In the meantime, details of how to contact the archive for research and how to obtain a professional genealogist in Denmark for additional assistance is available from their new HomePage.

Publications available include books on emigration to America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

In addition to its extensive holdings of interest to Danish record searchers, this is one of two Danish Archives with genealogy holdings of interest to German record searchers seeking persons living within that part of the Danish penninsula region that has been contested by Denmark and Germany, where several border changes since medieval times until 1919.

New (Temporary) HomePage: A "temporary" URL is now available for the Danish Emmigration Archives at http://www.cybercity.dk/users/ccc13656 A move the final location at the Danish Data Archives (Dansk DataArkiv) is expected to occur by yearend 1996.
