ANSORGE, Lena
email address: LAnsorge@de.imshealth.com

The name of my Grandfather was Ernst Arthur Willhelm ANSORGE. His date of birthday was 12 December 1909. His parents were Karl Ansorge und Anna Klara Ansorge. I don't know their dates of birth -- I guess, approximately 1889. My grandparents were born in Silesia and immigrated to Brazil in 1927. They lived in a small town close to Görlitz (Goerlitz / Gorlitz), in Germany. The town was called Kieslingswalde-Rachenau and today is called Slawnikowice, in Poland. I'm searching for information about my family. Could you provide me with some information about this subject or about genealogy in general? Thank you for your help.

d'AMBLY (D'AMBLY), Davis
eMail address: d_ambly@msn.com

I am searching for information regarding two families who intermarried in the mid-nineteenth century. My own family - d'AMBLY (D'AMBLY)- had two members (at least) who were emigres from France and entered into service to the crown of Austria. Charles-Louis-Francois d'AMBLY, who married Marie GRAFF - they had two sons, Alexander and Alfred, both living in 1861 and in service to the Austrian and Hungarian armies respectively. The second d'Ambly was Charles-Louis d'AMBLY, a twin of the above and hence often confused with his brother. This second brother married Betty EMMERICH and they had five daughters, one of whom married Johann NEPOMUNCK, Prinz von BICHAU. My grandfather was in contact with the family of Prinz von BUCHAU at the end of the nineteenth century, but we lost touch in time. Both these twins reputedly lived at Falkenau, near Grottkau in Silesia in the first half of the 19th century. I seek information about both of the d'Ambly family members and the Prinz von Buchau family members and whether any survive to this day.

BEUER, Sylvia
Canada
eMail address: kilkenney-gal@shaw.ca

I am looking for information about my grandfather's family. My Grandfather was Stefan BEIER born 25 March 1914 at Troppau, Austria-Silesia (now Opava, Czech Republic). He died on 7 April 1942 at Goruschka (I believe this is the soldiers graveyard). He was MIA (Missing in Action) in 1942. He married Anna SCHREINER in 1930. Anna was born 15 May 1912. They had 4 children born at Nakovo, Yugoslavia. The children were Nikolaus [my Father], Stefan, Anna and Rosie. I am searching for information on Stefan's parents and whether he had any siblings. Any help you can give would be appreciated.

CHAPIN, William

From: william chaplin
My grandfather, Reinhold P. WAGENKNECHT, was born 29 Seeptember 1876 at Reichenbach, Silesia, which is now Dizerzoniow, Wroclaw, Poland. He immigrated to the U.S.A. about 1890, settled at Adams, Massachusetts, and married on 27 June 1903 at Adams, Massachusetts to Laura KARNER. I am trying to verify his birth at Reichenbach, and his parents, Reinhold WAGENKNECHT and Pauline HANIG.

CHRISTENSEN, Jeanne
eMail address: djchrist@IowaTelecom.net

I don't have much information on my step-father's family, as he was only 8 years old when his father died, with his mother dying shortly after. But I thought it would be wonderful to be able to fill in a few blanks for him. My step-father's full name is Klaus Dieter KOLLATSCHNY, born 28 September 1937 at Sakisch, Schlesien, Germany (now Poland). His father's name was Reinhold KOLLATSCHNY (possibly born in 1906 and from somewhere in Upper Schlesien) and his mother's name was Irmgard GIERMANN. His father, Reinhold, was an engineer in a plant, and when he refused Hitler (Hitler wanted to turn the plant into a military plant and Reinhold said no), Reinhold was "drafted" and sent to the Eastern Front just 4 weeks before the war was over, and was killed there. Irmgard, at the time, was dying of tuberculosis, so she took her children to her parents' house in Berlin, where she died soon after. My step-father does not know the names of his paternal grandparents, as he only remembers meeting them once, when he was a very young child. His paternal grandparents were Paul and Gertrude Giermann. Paul Giermann was a policeman in Berlin. I know this isn't much to go on, but this is all I have. I would love to find out more information for my step-father, so if anyone can help me, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

CONRAD, Norman
England, United Kingdom
eMail address: norman@conrad128.fsnet.co.uk

I wish to contact any surviving members of my paternal grandfather's family, KONRAD. Wilibald Hugo KONRAD was born at Schreiberhau, Silesia on 25 July 1874. He was a glassworker who came to England in 1898, where he Anglicised his name to CONRAD. He married an English woman, Sarah Emily ROBERTS, and they had two sons, Hermann Hugo CONRAD and Ferdinand Emil CONRAD. He was interned as an "Enemy Alien" in the first World War, and was repatriated to Germany upon becoming ill. He died at the Berlin Charite Hospital on 12 April 1920. I believe that he had brothers or sisters still living at Schreiberhau, at the time of his death. It is likely that if they survived the second World War, they would have been expelled from Silesia since that part of the territory was given to Poland in 1945. I believe that some family members were living in the Black Forest area of West Germany at some time in the early post-war period. I would like to establish contact with them, if I could locate the area to which they went.

DÜLKNER (DUELKNER / DULKNER), Joachim
eMail address: joad2345@yahoo.com

English: I am looking for ancestors of Gottfried KLUGE, born 17.08.1780 (or 1785) (in Zobten / Sobótka (Sobotka), died 18.05.1856 (or 1866). He was farmer and lived at Sacherwitz (Zacharzyce) not far from Breslau. Also appreciated: information about his son Gottfried, born 1810 (Sacherwitz), died 1882 (Trebnitz), and his son Julius, born about 1840 (Ransern or Luzine), later servbed as a priest at Peterwitz and Liegnitz, and his other son Albert, born about 1850 (Luzine), later was a church-musician at Waldenburg.

Das Gleiche auf DEUTSCH: Ich suche Vorfahren von Gottfried KLUGE, geboren 17 August 1780 (oder 1785) (Zobten ?), gestorben 18 Mai 1856 (oder 1866), Bauer in Sacherwitz bei Breslau. Außerdem (Ausserdem) gesucht: Informationen über seinen Sohn Gottfried, geboren 1810 (Sacherwitz), gestorben 1882 / Trebnitz), und dessen Söhne Julius, geboren ca. 1840 (Ransern oder Luzine), später Pfarrer in Peterwitz und Liegnitz; und Albert, geboren ca. 1850 (Luzine), später Kantor in Waldenburg (N. GELLRICH, Sabina
eMail address: sabina.gellrich@verizon.net

I am looking for any information on the GELLRICH family of Schlegel, Kreis Neurode (later Kreis Glatz). This is what I know: My great grandfather was Adolf GELLRICH, born 31 May 1861, married Marie SCHNEIDER at Schlegel 24 May 1891, died Baruth / Mark (Brandenburg) 30 April 1940. His siblings were Paulina (born 22 August 1864), Agnes (born 29 December 1867), and Ernst (born 3 June 1869). Adolf Gellrich's parents were Joseph GELLRICH (a miner) born 28 March 1824, married Ernestine BITTNER of Mittelsteine on 15 February 1848, died 18 April 1899. Joseph's parents were Josef GELLRICH (also a miner) born 5 May 1796 at Eckersdorf, married Veronika FISCHER of Theresienfeld 21 November 1820, died 21 June 1826 in a mining accident. His parents were Josef GELLRICH, a weaver of Eckersdorf and Cathrina Lengsfeldin. All were Catholic. I am also interested in any information about living conditions in Schlegel and Kreis Glatz in the1600s to 1900s, and would be happy to trade information and tips with anyone who has similar interests. Thank you.

GOODWIN, Susan
eMail address: DGoo249076@aol.com

(Baptist)

I am trying to find the names of my great grandfather's parents and any other relavent data connected with him before he left Prussia. His name is Robert E. LASSMANN, born February 1832 at Breslau, Prussia. He immigrated to the US in 1854 and was naturalized here in 1865 after 4 years service in the Civil War with the 11th Massachusetts Infantry, Company K. (Hooker's Brigade). I have no idea what ship he arrived on, or the port of entry, although I am assuming Boston as he lived at Watertown, Massachusetts most of his life. He had a 1st wife Mary ? (born in Massachusetts) a 2nd wife Cynthia. I do not have a date of death for Robert but he was still living in 1920 as he appears on the census for that year living with a married daughter in Philadelphia, aged 88. Family "lore" has it that he left Germany to escape Roman Catholicism... he was a Deacon in the Baptist Church here so it sounds plausible, although I do not know if he was born a RC or a Baptist or Lutheran. Thank you for any and all help.

GRUND, Mary Elisabeth
eMail address: mary_elisabeth.grund@chello.no

(Roman Catholic)

He married Lara Caroline LARSEN of Drammen and they had 5 children. Can you help me to find birtplace and his father and mother. He was Catholic.

eMail address: RGruendel@aol.com

I am seeking data on the family GRUENDEL. My great grandfather immigrated to the USA in the mid 1800's from Glatz bei Breslau, The family home was a village called Niederhannsdorf. His name was Joseph GRUENDEL, born 13 March 1827 in the landschaft Glatz and at the village of Niederhansdorf, I believe. Thanks.

I am looking for any information on Wilhelm (or William) BLANDOWSKI. He was born in 1822 at Gliwice (Gleiwitz), Upper Silesia and was baptized Johann Wilhelm Theodor Ludwig BLANDOWSKI. He immigrated to Australia in 1849 and spent some time in South Australia and Victoria. He worked on natural history with Gerard KREFFT. He returned to Poland in 1859 and died about 1880, probably at Wroclaw (Breslau). Apart from some articles written back in Poland, there is little known about his work or whereabouts between 1860 and 1881. I am especially interested in tracking down where he may have worked or relatives or museums which might hold his work from the time in Australia.

JOHNSON, Gordon J.
eMail address: johnsong@stripe.colorado.edu

My grandfather, Frederick August GEISLER, was born in 1853, perhaps at Ober Baumgarten, Kreis Bolkenhain, Upper Silesia. He was a "Tischler". He married Anna Brosch in about 1880 in Freiburg, Kreis Schweidnitz, Upper Silesia and immigrated to the U.S.A. in 1882-1884. Two children [Elise (Elizabeth) and Frieda] were born atn Freiburg while his son, George, was born at Dallas, Texas in 1884. I would like to know the name of the ship they arrived on in the USA and the port of entry (New Orleans, Galveston, other ?). Also I am interested in finding a trace of any siblings of August Geisler. His mother was apparently widowed or divorced and remarried by the time of his marriage in 1880. At that time she was living at Ober Baumgarten. Her maiden name was Johanne Eleonore TSCHENTSCHER. August's father's name was Ernst Geisler; his grandfather's name was Benjamin GEISLER.

Also I am researching ny great-great-grandfather, Jacob BROSCH, was born at Teichenau, Kreis Schweidnitz, Siliesia in about 1795. He married Caroline GAFFRON and they had at least one son, Julius Brosch, and possibly another son, Paul, probably born in Teichenau around 1830-1832. Julius moved to Freiburg, Kreis Schweidnitz, and had several children: Anna, Klara, Emilie, Heinrich, Theodor, Hugo. The first three immigrated to the U.S.A. in the early 1880s. Heinrich moved to Hannover, Theodor died while traveling, and Hugo went to Wiesbaden / Biebrich. I would like to confirm that Paul was Julius Brosch's brother and learn whether Julius' will or testament might still be on file in Wroclaw archives. I believe he died in about 1910-1914 and had a small shoe or textile factory in Freiburg. Any assistance or informaation will be appreciated.

My great-grandfather, Christopher RUPPER, was born 1 September 1830. The census and other records in the US spell the name of the Prussian town as Dyford. I am almost certain that the immigration officials upon his entry spelled this name phonetically and that the true name is Dyhernfurth (Dyrn Ford). (See the Dyhernfurth website). This town was historically in Western Poland and had the Polish name of Brzeg Dolny. Partitions of Poland early changed the name of its locale to Germanic Prussia and the name was changed to Dyhernfurth after the nobleman who bought the town. World War II changed the western border of Poland again and it was returned to it's former name of Brzeg Dolny. My ancestor was first noted in U.S. records as a resident of Wabash county Illinois in 1857, when he married Martha A. WHITE, a young woman born near Nashville, Tennessee, whose entire family had moved to Illinois and located in that area. I have good records of Christopher RUPPER and his descendants in the U.S., but would hope to find information about his family in Silesian Prussia. A German genealogist wrote me a long time ago that the name Rupper originated in the free city of Strasburg (Strasbourg) when this area was a part of the Holy Roman Empire. Also I have found pedigrees with this name that were from Switzerland. Brzeg Dolny can be found near the city of Wolow and Wroclaw on the map. During World War II, it was a major manufacturing town for some of the poison gasses used by the Nazis in their concentration camps. There was also a large "sub camp" nearby. I will appreciate hearing from anyone who has information re: Dyhernfurth, Brzeg Dolny and / or the name Rupper.

JORDIN, Kate
eMail address: the_kate@hotmail.com

I am doing some research on my family history, following the Jordin line. I know that there was a Johann August JORDIN, born at Neustadt, Prussia (circa 1850). And he married a Wilhelmine Augusta Ptach and they left to come to Queensland with their 2 children (Robert and Maria) on the 10 November 1872, on the ship called the Alardus. And I am a direct desendant of them. But I haven't been able to find connections further back past Johann. And I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the JORDIN family and is able to help me out.

LIEBECK, Jill
eMail address: graeme.liebeck@bigpond.com

I am researching my husband's family tree. The original spelling was Wilhelm LIEBICH, born 1806, married Anna Rosina LINDNER in Prussia. She was born 1804 and emigrated to South Australia in 1855 from Silesia, Prussia. I would appreciate any help.

OLSON, Eric
eMail address: OlssonEA@cs.com

I am trying to find information on my great-great-grandfather, Hermann Gustav HAYN, (possibly Gustav Hermann HAYN in the old country). He was born 8 May 1841 at Kerzdorf, Kreis Lauban, Schlesien to Ernst and Henrietta HAYN. I was unable to find his birth record in the church records for Lauban, so I suspect that they may be located at Holzkirch. Unfortunately I do not have access to them for that time period. Does anyone know if they exist? And how to find them? Hermann immigrated to the US in 1858. I also found him on the ship's log for the "SS New York" on 25 June 1866. He was traveling with an Auguste HAYN, possibly his sister. I traced both of them to Pittsfield, Massachusetts where an Eleanore Auguste HEYNE married someone with the last name of TRAUSCHKE who was from Lauban. Thanks.

POPPER-GURASSA, Haydée (Haydee)
eMail address: hpopper@free.fr

I am looking for ancestors of my parents, the GURASSA and the POPPER family, who are spread around the world. I know that before and during the second World War the Gurassa family lived in Poland and in Germany and the Popper family lived in Austria. For the Gurassa Family, I am specialy looking for the link between Moritz, Samuel and Joachim GURASSA, who are born in the midle of the 19th century near Oppeln in Schlesien. I am olso looking for parents of Alfred Gurassa born at Oppeln in 1882 and dead in Aushwitz in 1942 and for parents and childrens of Yakub Moses Frydman which is link with the Gurassa family. For the POPPER family, I am looking for parents and children of Benjamin POPPER, who is born in 1850, dead in 1917 and who has probably living near or in Vienna and also for the brothers of Jacob Allerhand born in 1846 (dead in 1928), which is link with the Popper family. Thanks for any information you can communicated.

PRZYGODA, Philip
eMail address: przygoda@hn.ozemail.com.au

I think my ancestor, Paul Przigode (born 11720) may have come from Silesia (1720). Can you please help?

SCHUBERT, John
Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
ewMail addresses: johnschubert@hotmail.com or thosschubert@optusnet.com.au

I am searching for information on my ancestor, Carl Gottlieb SCHUBERT, born in 1730 at Graebel, a village near Bolkenhain in the Principality of Silesia-Schweidnitz. He married in Hannover in 1764 and again in 1767, and raised a large family in Braunschweig. Graebel is now known as Grabla and Bolkenhain is now known as Bolkow, and they are both in the south-west part of modern Poland, near Jawor (previously Jauer) and Wroclaw (previously Breslau). I would also like to find out how to search for 18th century baptism or marriage records in the area of Graebel, Bolkenhain and Jauer.

SCHUSCHKE, Eugene (Gene) T.
eMail address: gene-sigrid@web.de

I am searching for the name of my grandfather's Father. My Grandfather was Edward Ludwig SCHUSCHKE. He was born 31 January 1863 in Kreis Bütow (Buetow / Butow), Pommern. He came to the USA 22 June 1882 with his uncle, supposedly posing as the son od his uncle. The name of this uncle may have been Ferdinand SCHUSCHKE, who was born 17 June 1847 in Germany, presumably in Schesien (Breslau or Glatz area). Ferdinand lived at 29 Conant Street, Boston, Massachuesetts and was naturalised as a USA citizen on 19 September 1891. Some data which I have indicates that Edward Ludwig SCHUSCHKE'S Father was Karl (or Carl) SCHUSCHKE. Karl may well have been born in the Breslau / Glatz area as the son of Gottlieb SCHUSCHKE. Gottlieb was a mason and so was Karl. Gottlieb must have been born about 1795 - 1800 and Karl must have been born about 1830. Karl lived to be 98 years old. I know that Karl moved to the village of Dampen, Kreis Bütow (Buetow / Butow), Pommern and gave up the masonry work and worked as a distiller (Schnappsbrenner) in Dampen. His wife died in 1912 and was buried in Gross Tuchen, Kreis Bütow, Pommern. I also know that my Grandfather had a brother named Albert and two sisters. Karl had sons Albert and Fritz, and daughters Maria and Hedwig, and, I suspect, a third son Edward, my grandfather. Any and all information will be appreciated.

VAN ZETTEN (Van ZETTEN), Elly
