I am seeking any information (birth, marriage, parents, other
brothers and sisters) of locomotive engineer foreman Paul WUTTKE,
and his wife, Theresia HOFFMANN. They lived at Kattowitz,
Schlesien, Prussia Germany in the late 1800's and in Glatz,
Schlesien in the early 1900's. He was born about 1850 and died
about January 1904. She was born about March 1853 and died April
1926. Their children were Theodore WUTTKE, born March 1877:
Paul Carl Max WUTTKE, born October 1878 and moving to U.S.A.;
Max Carl Otto WUTTKE, born June 1880; Martha Theresia Louise
WUTTKE, born April 1882, and moving to Berlin; Emil Alfred
WUTTKE, born August 1883, and also moving to Berlin; Alfred
Franz WUTTKE, born January 1885; and Elizabeth WUTTKE, born

I am researching my great-great -grandparents Carl August MULLER
/ MUELLER born around 1824 at Schatz,
Silesia. He married Carolina Bertha SEIPOLT (born around 1837,
Germany). They arrived at the Port of
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia on the ship "Neumuhlen" on 23 July
1858 and their first child Auguste Paulina
was born in Tinpot, South Australia 8 November 1858. Other
children born around the same area of Mt. Barker
were Friedrich
Wilhelm (baptized 17 September 1861), Carolina Clara (baptized 18
April 1863), Johann August (baptized 02
April 1868), Carolina Bertha (baptized 12 August 1871) and Carl
Benjamin (baptized 25
September 1874). In the 1880's the MULLER family moved to
Victoria to take up land. I would really like any
information on Schatz, and any relatives of either Carl August
MULLER or Carolina Bertha SEIPOLT.
Thanks.

I am seeking any information on two brothers, Johann Gottlieb
HIRT / HIRTH and Johann Gottfried HIRT / HIRTH, from Lauban,
Schwarzbach. Johann Gottfried attended school in Upper Flinsberg
and graduated in 1840. I believe their parents were Johann
Ehrenfried Hirt and Johanne Christiane SCHEBERLEIN. They
emigrated to New York in 1851 and then on to Australia in 1853.
I would be pleased to hear from anyone with any knowledge of
these men.

Peter Sebastian FRACH is from Brinnitz, Kries Oppeln. The
village is named Brynica today. He was born
(Catholic) in 1886 in Brinnitz. His naturalization papers state
his parents were Sebastian FRACH and Frances
JAWLIZA. We know he had a sister that did not emigrate. Where
can we get access to records for Brinnitz?
Thank you.
FEISTEL, Rainer

I am looking for ancestors of August FEISTEL, born 15 August 1844
at Niederhermsdorf, died 28 August 1903 at Eisersdorf. His wife
was Maria NENTWIG, born 15 September 1849, died 8 November 1918
at Eisersdorf. Thier daughter in law was Anna REIPRICH, born 11
February 1886 at Weisstein. All locations are around Waldenburg
and Glatz, Silesia.
Joe Riemer's Note: I believe that the first location
would be more correctly spelled Nieder Hermsdorf (according to my
copy of the Schlesien gazetteer by Kowallis).
Rainer's 15 January 2000 addition: The first location is probably
Niederhannsdorf (near Glatz) instead. Other common spellings are
Nieder Hannsdorf for this village or Nieder Hermsdorf (near
Waldenburg) for Niederhermsdorf.

I am looking for the parents of my ancestor Robert Julius
Heinrich OLDEKOPP / OLDEKOP / OLDECOP, born at Glogau 23 January
1804 (or 25. January 1804), died at Freystadt, Schlesien 25
January 1857, Evangelisch. His sister was Mathilde Sophia Amalia
OLDEKOPP, born: Glogau 23 or 25 January 1804, Evangelisch. Their
father could be Ludewig OLDEKOPP. His name is noted at the
"Taufurkunde" of his children and he worked in 1804 at Glogau as
Proviant-Controlleur; or was he Friedrich Wilhelm OLDEKOP - he
worked at Glogau in 1780 as Justitiarius; or was he Friedrich
Wilhelm Albrecht Ludewig von OLDECOP, born Wesel, Rhein 21 July
1750, Evangelish Reformed (Deutsches Geschlechterbuch, Band 180,

Gleiwitz ? His daughter, Elise (Julie ?) Von BORNSTEDT (born
before 14 April 1824, died 7 October 1902, married Louis GERICKE)
had lived there.
LAMICH, Bonita
eMail address: bnglamich@a-o.com
I am searching for the 1831 Catholic marriage and/or family
record of Anton LAMICH who married Marie
HAUPT at Ratibor, Silesia. This is marriage is listed on the IGI
at the LDS Family History Library. My
husband's grandfather, Paul Lamich, born 29 June 1878 is the son
of Julia KALKA and Franz (Frank) LAMICH.
Julia, Frank and Paul LAMICH emigrated from Silesia to Chicago,
Illinois in 1879. The LAMICH name is not
very common and I think there may be a connection as Anton would
be the right age to be Frank's father. Any
information would be appreciated.

I am seeking information on the STEINER family and several others
who emigrated to Victoria County, Texas
1848-1852. Carl STEINER, his wife Victoria Augusta SPANIG
STEINER, their 3 daughters Anna Marie,
Minna and Augusta, families KOBITZ, JAESCHE, WOLFF, KORNFUHRER,
TSCHOPE and VOGT. Josef
KOBITZ's wife THERESA may have been sister to Carl or Victoria
STEINER. Carl STEINER was born 22
February 1812 at Schwammelwitz, Neisse, Oberschlesien and
attended gymnasium at Neisse. He was also in the
Prussian Infantry and was discharged in 1845. The STEINER family
was Roman Catholic; Victoria STEINER
and her daughters as well as the other families were passengers
on the Bremen bark "Von Vienke", which landed
first at Galveston, Texas and then at Indianola, Texas 16
December 1852. The ship's passenger list shows the
KOBITZ and Josef KORNFURHER families to be from Grottkau, the
STEINER, WOLFF, Benjamin
KORNFURHER, and VOGT familes from Kamitz and the TSCHOPE family
from Alttomnitz. The JAESCHE
families were from Patschkau and Reyersdorf. Any information on
the STEINER family would be greatly
appreciated as well as information on any connections to the
other families mentioned.
Thank you very much.

I am searching for information on my great-grandfather, Max
SITTENFELD, who was born at Breslau in May 1854, and emigrated to
Buffalo New York in 1882. In Buffalo he started a barrel and
bottle business. Any information about Sittenfeld's from Breslau
would be appreciated. My great grandparents were Jewish. Max's
spouses name was Rosalie Falk (sometimes referred to as Sara).
I suspect Max and Rosalie were married around 1880. Any further
tips would be much appreciated. Next March I hope to go to
Breslau (Wroclaw) and I'd love to contact someone ahead of time
who might do some research for me.
Webmasters Note: According to Reference 5 below, a Ida
Sittenfeld married a Dr. SPEIER at Polonisch Leipe on 2 May 1821
and a Rosal. Sittenfeld married a Dr. FREUND at Grottkau on 5
August 1827. Both of these marriages predate Breslau in 1854 by
a generation and it is thus possible that either Ida or Rosal.
was the mother of Max, as this appears to be a somewaht rare
surname. Also, bothof these locations would appear to have had a
Sittenfeld line living there at that time (1821, 1827), as most
marriages occured at the home town of the bride.
FYI, there are Jewish records for Grottkau (1797-1874) available
on two FHL microfilms. For Breslau, in addition to the 1938
"minority census", the 1791 "family book" for Jewish families
there (FHL microfilm #1184403) and the Jewish "Matrikel Register"
(1760-1940) of vital data is available on 27 FHL microfilm. You
best start doing your research at your nearest FHC, or obtain
professional assistance in the Salt lake City area to do so.

Margaretta Magdalena (my great-grandmother on my father's side),
born 1844; Richard Anton Edward, born 1846 and Leonhard Rudolph

I am searching for any information about my great-grandfather,
Franz KURKA, born 31 December 1941 at Breslau (now Wroclaw). We
have no information about his parents or siblings, but do know
that he served in the Prussian army and fought in the Battle of
Koenigratz in 1866. We believe his brother fought for Austria in
the same battle and the two brothers exchanged rings on the
battlefield. He married Marie KOCH, born July 1953 at Prague.
Whether they married in Breslau or Vienna is unclear, but we do
know that they lived in Vienna at the time of their childrens'
births and that they left Vienna in 1891 for New York. I
would appreciate any assistance in helping me to find records
relating to Franz. Many thanks.

I'm searching for information on Edward SCHONFELDT, born 1
November 1825 at Zuckmantel, Austria (or possibly Cukmantl,
Germany). An Aunt stated his name was Edward E. CAMBER. Two
other birth years indicated on separate records are for 1824 and
1826. His parents and wife are unknown. He emigrated to the
United States in 1851.
Joe Reiman's Note: According to the Sclesien Gazetteer by
Kowallis, there was a Zuckmantel located in Freiwaldau county,
CSR. This was part of Silesia at one time.
SMEE, Margaret GLIER
632 Duncan Road Dunoon, NSW Australia 2480
eMail address: msmee10@scu.edu.au
I am presently preparing a webpage entitled the Breslau GLIERS
Family Mystery. The aim is to try to locate any relatives of our
family. My grandfather Joseph Richard GLIER was born in Breslau
in 1883 and lived at 98 to 100 Klosterstrasse. St. Mauritius
Catholic church was down the road. As a teenager he ran away to
sea, joined a British East Indiaman and never went back to
Silesia again. He sailed around Cape Horn 7 times and finally
as World War I approached became an Australian citizen and
married here in Sydney in 1913. His father's name was Otto GLIER
and his mother's name was Elizabeth nee MERKELT. He had an Uncle
William, an Aunt Marie, an Uncle Alfred and they appeared to try
to keep in contact with Joseph writing to Annandale in Sydney in
1911 and 1921 at least. I don't know if he wrote back. In 1944 I
think Wilhelm GLIER owned a book shop in Breslau. The family
were probably evacuated west sometime in 1944 or 1945 when the
Nazis turned Breslau into 'Fortress Breslau' and the Russian Army
attacked. We think that sometime in the 1950s a nephew may have
written to grandfather about a possible sponsorship. We don't
know if he answered the letter. He was very embarrassed about his
19th century antique German. In 1992 I went to Wroclaw (formerly
Breslau) and found the address with the old GLIER factories
behind a new apartment building that was under construction. The
original 3 story J. GLIER building was bombed sometime in WW II?
Was I the first GLIER to return since the day my grandfather ran
away to sea around 1895? The GLIERS of Breslau may have come to
Breslau in the early 19th century, possibly from the mountainous
area south. I heard of violin makers from that area that went to
New York. Joseph GLIER my great, great grandfather also worked
with wood. He had established a furniture, parquet flooring
factory in Breslau some time in the 1830s-1840s. Can anyone
please help?
Webmaster's Note: There is a good chance that the detailed 3
generation repatriation records for Wilhelm and his family are to
be found in the "EWZ" collection (1,900+ FHL microfilms). Three
seminal articles on it and how to use it are found in the
FEEFHS Journal Volume 6 (1998) - available at US$30.00
postpaid to any address worldwide. There are also significant
reference to this collection on this website - use EWZ in the
website index

My web page
The following I know: Johann Friedrich SCHIRMER died after 1865.
He was married to Maria Elisabeth GAMKE, who died at Weßig
Wessig, Kreis Sprottau, Schlesien; now Wysoka, Poland]) on 28
August, 1830. From this marriage was born Johann Ernst Heinrich,
born at Weßig (Wessig, Kreis Sprottau, Schlesien; now
Wysoka, Poland) 28 August 1830, died in Werdohl (Deutschland =
Germany) 12 August 1906. Wessig is near Primkenau. I'm not 100%
sure, but I believe J.H. SCHIRMER had a farm at Weßig.
Now I would like to proceed with my research. I would like to get
more information on the parents of both M.E. GAMKE and J.F.
SCHIRMER. Further I would like to obtain a copy of their
marriage certificate & details, the death certificate of M.E.
GAMKE and J.F. SCHIRMER. As he was still living at Wessig in
1865, I presume he also died there). And did J. E. H. SCHIRMER
have any brothers or sisters? His mother died with his birth, so
he must have been the youngest, but maybe J.F. SCHIRMER married
again???) And where did they go?
I have never researched in Schlesien, I have no idea were to
start and where to find this kind of information. I would
appreciate any help, that could bring my research a little bit
further. I might once go there, so also hints of archives, who
could have some info of value for me, or where I could write to,
are welcome. Thanks in advance for any help! Kind regards from
Germany.
Webmaster's notes: For ypur information, there are 8 Wysoka
listings within the borders of Poland today. While several of
them are listed in the FHL Catalog (FHLC), none are shown with
Kreis Sprottau. There is no Primkenau in the FHLC either. I do
not have a good map handy nor the Kowallis gazetteer. A quick
scan of the Silesia Map in the FEEFHS Map Room did not reveal
either location.
In your case, with multiple listings of the name of your
location, and without knowing the specific Polish gmina, parafia
or powiat your specific one is located with, I cannot help you.
There are 89 Polish archiwum locations in existence, and we have
access to the 1998 catalog of their religious and civil vital
record holdings. But does the one you might consider for
research have holdings that include any church books or civil
registration records of potential interest to you?
