I am looking for relatives of John Henry WIEGLENDA (WYCLENDA) who
was born 18 May 1948 at
Ratibor, Silesia, Germany (now Raciborz, Poland). His wife,
Selma Augusta FRIEDE, was born 22
November, 1854 at Leutmannsdorf, Schweidnitz County, Germany (am
having difficulty locating this on a
map). They lived at Heidersdorf, Silesia, Germany until 1883
when they emigrated to the United States, first
settling in Ohio and moving a year later to North Dakota. Only
three of their five children born in Germany
survived (George, Julius, Clara). They had seven more children
in the U.S. (Paul, Mary -- my great
grandmother -- Fred, Martha, Katherine, Meta and Harry). Selma
died in April 1998.
CLOSSON, Norma

My great grandfather Ernest Eduard FRACHE was born in 1835, place
unknown, possibly Alsace Lorraine and
married Anna Maria Magdalena LORENZ who was born in 1848 at
Berthelsdorf, Kreis Landeshut, Schlesien.
I have the data of their children who were born in Rothenbach,
Kreis Landeshut, Schlesien and Gaablau, Kreis
Landeshut, Schlesien. I do not know the birthplace of Ernest
Eduard but he died in 1889. Magdalena 'Lorenz'
Frache emigrated in 1890 to the United States with her children
and then moved to British Columbia Canada
where she died in 1916. Their descendants live in Canada and the
United States including Washington State,
Idaho, California, Oregon. If you would like more information
you can contact me at my eMail address. I'd
be happy to contribute my time.
CRESPO, Eleonore

I am looking for any relatives or friends of Ilse HAHNEL, born
1920 in Silesia. During WW II she was with
German airforce. Before that she was the court reporter in the
Schweidnitz courthouse. Her parents owned a
Beautyshop in Schweidnitz. Ilse had several sisters. I would
like to know what ever happened to her.Last I
heard she moved to East Germany, after WW II and got married. I
have no idea of husband's name. Thank
you for ANY information.
FRIESE, Lauretta
eMail address: laured@funtv.com
I am looking for information about my husband's great
grandfather, Reynold FRIESE, a Prussian Army
Officer. One of his sons, Oscar FRIESE, our grandfather, was
born at Breslau about 1858. He married
Pauline WOLF and they owned a camera factory at Berlin. All
their children were born there. In 1905 he
emigrated illegally to Canada with his two oldest sons, William
(born 1889) and Fredrick (born 1891). His
wife followed in 1906 accompanied by their daughter, Elizabeth
(born 1886) and our father, Reynold (Roy)
FRIESE (born 1896). I believe the elder Reynold FRIESE was still
living at Breslau in 1906. Any information
about his rank and his spouse's or parents' names would be
appreciated.
Webmaster's Note: There are 6 Friese grooms listed in (1)
below, but without the bride's name, the
bride's village name or the religion, it is not much help. There
was a Dr. (MD) Friese who was married in
Breslau in 1811.
GIRBIG, Jean-Patrick
eMail address: girbigjp@wanadoo.fr
My web page
The father of Wilhelm GIRBIG was born 2 February 1816 and his
mother was born 1 April 1823 at
Thimendorf. He married Maria Ernestine SCHREIBER, who was born
at Bunzlau. His second marriage was
to Johanna LINDERN and they had at least 2 boys: Gustav GIRBIG
(who was born 17 September 1876 at
Nieder Tillendorf, Silesia and moved to Metz in Lorraine) and
Karl Max GIRBIG (who was born 12 February
1848 [or 1868] at Gö8rlitz). The area of origin for these
ancestors seems to be the triangle of Silesia,
Görlitz, Bunzlau and south. Thanks.
Also, where can I find the book Die Eheschliessungen in den
Schlesischen Provinzialblaettern
(1785-1849) published in 1994 by Verlag Degner and edited by
Uwe Kambach in Denver, Houston or
Europe ? What is its price? Thanks.
Webmaster's Note: To the best of my knowledge, it is not
available in North America and only
available from the publisher, Verlag Degener & Co. located at
Neustadt an der Asch, Germany, assuming it is
still in print. I purchased my copy from Henning Schroeder, a
German genealogist who had a table at a
FEEFHS Convention several years ago. It cost me US$103.00
including postage and handling then.
GUTTOWSKI, Helmut

I am looking for any persons with the SEMMIG surname from
Goerlitz. The ancestor was Walter Semmig,
born 20 April 1892. His father was Paul Semmig. I am also
looking for Hermann STILLER who married
Emma RICHTER in Breslau. Thank you for your help.
Webmaster's Note: Reference (5) below contains 10 STILLER
grooms married between 1802 and 1839
at Breslau (4), Raitbor (2), and 1 each in Brieg, Carlsruhe,
Frankenstein and Schweidnitz; also 73 RICHTER
brides, although no STILLER is listed there as marrying a bride
named RICHTER.
HEYMER, Karin
eMail address: kheymer@mail.wtamu.edu
I would like to hear from anyone researching the David and
Dorothy DRIER family from Bad Landeck in
Upper Silesia (now part of Poland). David DRIER was born circa
1808 and Dorothy DRIER was born circa
1820. The place of birth for both is assumed to be Upper
Silesia. Dorothy's maiden name was MIUSLNER
or NIUSLNER. David and Dorothy emigrated to U.S. in 1869 and
settled at Douglas, Montcalm County,
Michigan. The following children came with them: Charles,
William, August (born 13 May 1858 - my gr
grandfather), Henry, Carrie and Charlotte. Another daughter,
Emma, remained in Germany. I would love to
hear from anyone who knows anything about Landeck or anyone who
knows anything about the DRIER family.
Thanks.

I am trying to find the names of my grandmother's parents and any
other data about her before she emigrated to
the USA. Her name was Marie SEIBT. She was born in Silesia,
Prussia near Liebntz or Goldberg in July
1859. She became naturalized as a US citizen in 1881. She had
relatives SEIBT relatives in Illinois who
emigrated from Bremen to New York in December 1868.
Webmaster's Note: While marriages of 5SEIBT grooms and 9
SEIBT brides are listed, it is not possible
to help when Marie's husband's name is not listed nor is thier
religion.
HOBOY, Loren P.
eMail address: lorenhoboy@pobox.com
The Evangelische Kirche Neusaltz Kirchenbuch (Nowa Sol) am
Oder River (Kreis Freystadt)
contains: Births + 1753-1936, Taufen (Birth) 1753-1804 and
1817-1936, Tote (Deaths) 1753-1809 and
1817-1936, Heiraten (Marriages) 1753-1812 and 1817-1936. We are
in the process of having the Polish
Archives search these Evangelical Church records listed above for
HOBOY, HOBOI, HOBOIN, HOBOYN, and
HOBOIS for the listed periods which are not in the LDS records.
While I can not search for specific names,
we have gotten and will inadvertently continue to get information
about other families names in the area such as
BECKER, GR\TTKA ?, KARALATH, KRAUSE, KUTZKIN = KUTZKE, LINDNER,
NAPARELL,
OLBRICH, PUSCH, RUSKIN, SCHVEPKIN and SCHVPKE.
If you have specific reason to know that your family information
is contained in the Neusalz records, send me
the name and approximate dates and I will see if they are by any
chance on the same pages as our information.
Unfortunately the Polish Archives will not allow us to get a copy
of the full books so we can do our own
search. They will only do individual searches for a fee.
I would like to exchange information with anyone searching towns
in the same area in Silesia: Neusalz,
Grüneberg (Gruenberg), Sabor (Saabor), Deutches Wartenberg,
Karalath (Carolath) including the family
name (I have a story about ice skates - a gift from your family
to one of mine), Beuthen, Hammer, Modritz,
Kusser, Konto, Rainshain (?). Does anyone else have pages from
any of these surrounding town church
records?. Maybe we could all share.
Can anyone tell me how to get a history of the Evangelical Church
for this area of Silesia. The Evangelical
Church records go back to 1753; what was the area church
structure before that time (both Catholic and
Lutheran)? I look forward to hearing from you.
KRIEBAUM, Robert
eMail address: RKriebaum@aol.com
I am seeking information on my wife's Schlesien ancestors. My
wife's father, Theodor von CIESZINSKI (may
have been adopted) was born 31 October 1898 at Schreiberau, Kreis
Rosenberg, Oberschlesien and died 26 May
1958 at Schweinfurt, Bayern. Theodor's father, Paul von
CIESZINSKI and his mother was Franziska, maiden
name unknown. Theodor also has sisters, names unknown. Theodor
married Martha Hedwig BECKER at
Gross Zoellnig, Kreis Oels, Schlesien, on 27 October 1923.
Martha was born 29 July 1904 at Gross Zoellnig,
Kreis Oels, Neiderschlesien and died 19 June 1987 at Werneck,
Bayern. Martha's father, Karl BECKER, was
born 1 January 1875 at Gross-Zoellnig, Kreis Oels, Oberschlesien
and died 19 January 1948 at Osnabrueck,
Germany. Her mother, Karoline GALINSKI, was born 4 July 1878 at
Gross Stradam, Kreis Gross
Wartenburg, Oberschlesien and died 16 January 1946 at Breslau,
Schlesien. The family had 6 children: Paul,
Martha, Alois, Josef, Gertrud and Caecilia, all born at
Gross-Zoellnig, Kreis Oels, Oberschlesien. Paul von
CIESZINSKI and Karl BECKER worked for the railroad. We would
like any information pertaining to the
Schlesien von CIESZINSKI, BECKER and GALINSKI family names. Paid
researchers and queries to the
present Polish areas have produced no results.
Webmaster's Note: Your wife appears to have a mix of German
(BECKER) and Polish (CIESZINSKI
and GALINSKI) ancestors. Becker is a most common German name,
but might be found knowing the village,
using the Ahemestammkartei des
Deutschen Volkes.
For your ancestors with Polish surnames, I suggest contacting and
joining one or two Polish genealogy societies
near your home and working with them on your problem - see the Polish Cross-Index

I am looking for information on the ROTHER family, from Waldau
(Liegnitz), in particular Gustav ROTHER
(born 3 July 1842 at Waldau; died 24 December 1895 at Waldau;
married Emilie RIEDEL). According to the
Geschlechterbuch (Schlesien Band 73) he was a Gutsbesitzer
(Webmaster's note: carrier of goods or
possessions = teamster) at Waldau (Liegnitz). According to
family lore, the couple had 12 children, one of
which was my grandmother, Elfriede ROTHER (born 14 December 1881
at Waldau, died 12 August 1963 at
Lüdenscheid / Luedenscheid). Review of the Lutheran church
records from Liegnitz have been
inconclusive. The LDS FHC (Family History Center) has no records
from Waldau after 1813. If anyone has
any information or ideas as to how to continue the research of
this family, I would appreciate hearing.
Thanks.
Webmaster's Note: Of the 19 grooms named ROTHER whose
marriages are listed in ref. (5) below, one
or two occured at Liegnitz on 20 October 1829, and bear further
research. There are marriages of 40 brides
named RIEDEL during the era of 1785-1849.
KUNZ, Karen and Cynthia
eMail address: kckunz@netserve.kfalls.net
I am looking for any information on the family of my grandmother,
Marie PIEGRZIMEK (Piegrimek,
Piegrzymek). She was born in Karvina, Silesia, Austria 11 August
1878. Her parents were Filip Piegrzimek
and Barbara WALOSCHKOVA (Valosek). She married Joseph MOKROS on
3 February 1898. I would be
very interested in learning if anyone else has even run across
this name as I have yet to locate it in any
database. Any suggestions on where to search or the meaning of
Piegrzimek would be appreciated.
Webmaster's Note: Your Slavic surnames do not appear to be
German, and this is primarily a Germanic
Research List. You might be well advised to be in contact with
one or more Polish genealogy societies (see the
Polish Cross-Index on this website). Expert Horst Reschke of
Salt lake City recently wrote an article on
Austrian Silesia that was published about August 1998 in the German
Genealogical Digest. It might contain information on
Karvina.
KUNZENDORF, Robert (Bob)
eMail address: robert_kunzendorf@uml.edu
I am searching for information about the ancestors and
descendants of Johann Friedrich Casper
KUNZENDORF, who married his second wife Anna Maria Elisabeth
SCHULZ on 30 September 1798, and
died at Klein Beltsch bei Herrnstadt, Kreis Guhrau, Schlesien, on
26 March 1806. His second son was Johann
Gottfried KUNZENDORF, who was born at Klein Beltsch on 14 August
1788, married Eva Rosine KORTSCH
at Trachenberg, Kreis Militsch, Schlesien on 24 June 1828, and
died 9 Nobember 1871. Johann Gottfried's
brother may have been Ernest KUNZENDORF -- Lutheran Pastor at
Altstadt bei Lueben, Kreis Lueben,
Schlesien, husband of Bertha REIDEL, and father of Berlin medical
student Paul Ernest KUNZENDORF.
Johann Gottfried's son Johann Karl Wilhelm Kunzendorf, my
great-great-grandfather, was born at Klein Beltsch
on 3 September 1829, married Anna Rosina Caroline FRITSCH at
Gross Saul, Kreis Guhrau, Schlesien, on 21
June 1853, and died at Berlin on 31 August 1896. I would like to
find the parents, first wife, birth place,
marriages places, siblings, and children of Johann Friedrich
Casper KUNZENDORF.

My mother's married name was Martha SCHLOSS; her maiden name
ULLRICH. Her mother's married name
was Valesca ULLRICH, maiden name was TAIBNER. Valeca Ullrich
died at Ratibor circa 1955. My mother
emigrated to the USA in 1955 and died in Florida in 1989. I am
the only daughter, my name is Karin Leonor,
maiden name of SCHLOSS. I am looking for any relatives, cousins
etc. My mother's brother name was Leo
ULLRICH. He died in World War II but his wife and children
emigrated to the US, I believe California. Also
cousin from my grandmother Valesca Ullrich and Taibner. I would
like to find everybody. Please if any body
has any information please eMail or write me. Thank you.
NOTZON, Martin

I am researching my family roots in Silesia, and would appreciate
any information regarding the names
NOTZON, NOCON or NOCUN, which I understand are the same name,
with the first being a German spelling
and the latter two being Polish spellings. I would also
appreciate any information on the place names that my
cousin has uncovered. My great-grandfather was named Mattheus
NOTZON. He and his wife Rozalia (nee
MAJSELI) emigrated to Texas in 1867 from Silesia. Mattheus's
younger brother Franz was married to
Rozalia's sister Franciszka, but they remained in Silesia.
Mattheus's father was Johann. The NOTZON family
lived in Petersgratz or Petrogratz in Silesia. The ship's list
at Galveston, Texas, where they first landed, gives
the city of birth for Mattheus as Naboritzne, which may have
actually been Nieborowice or Nieborowitz, or also
Neubersdorf, near Gliwitz. According to the ship's list, Rozalia
(and the Majseli family) was from Gautzvauh
(probably Gonsiorowitz or Gasciorwice, also Lysoh-Gonsciorwitz).
Both the NOTZON and MAJSELI family
members were baptized and married at the Catholic church in
Himmelwitz. The name is
spelled NOCON on the church records.
REED, Jim
eMail address: reedj@email.msn.com
I am trying to determine the original spelling for my family name
of SCRIPSICK and a likely port of arrival in
the United States. According to census records, my
great-grandfather, Michael SCRIPSICK emigrated to the
United States in 1873 at the age of 15 or 16 (birth year
1857-1858). The 1880 federal census showed Schlesien
as his place of birth and his parent's (Frank and Mary) place of
birth. The 1885 Kansas State census showed
the place of birth as Germany and then beside that name the
census taker had written Oppeln and then marked
through it. This leads me to believe he was from Oppeln, Germany
(which is now Opole, Poland, I think).
His name was spelled SKRIPSICK in deeds I found from 1885-1890.
I have been told by an individual who
had lived in Poland for a time that the Polish spelling of this
name would have been SKRZYPCZYK. I have
checked the surname list for all of the above surnames on the
SAGS web page and had no luck. Would anyone
have other ideas or possible leads?
Webmaster's Note: You do not indicate his wife's name or his
religion. If you feel he had ethnic
German ancestor, they you are on the correct list. If he was of
ethnic Polish ancestry, then you should have
submitted to the PLRL
(Polish Research List)
REYNOLDS, Al
eMail address: dbreyno@pixi.com
I am looking for information on Davis SCHUBERT who resided at
Liegnitz, and Christopher SCHUBERT, who
resided at Armenruh, Lower Silesia. They were members of the
Schwenckfelders religious movement. They
left Lower Silesia in 1734 and went to Rotterdam where they
boarded the ship "St. Andrew" which was heading
for America. They arrived in Philadelphia 22 September 1734.
The birth date for David is circa 1693; he died
24 October 1774 in Germantown Pennsylvania. The birth date for
Christopher is circa 1689, he died 4 June
1769 at Germantown Pennsylvania. I would like any family history
or an idea of where to look for family
history on these individuals. Thanks
SCHMIDT, Norm
Cape Cod, Massachuestts, U.S.A.
eMail address: NESchmidt@aol.com
I am looking for records (church or civil) for Friedrich
Christlieb SCHMIDT, born 20 August 1835 at
Giessmannsdorf, Saxony (renamed Nadrzecze in Poland). He married
Maria Rosina SCHÖN (Schoen),
on 3 March 1867 at Oberullersdorf (now Kopaczow, Poland). She
was from Ullersdorf, Bohemia.
Giessmannsdorf and Oberullerdorf may have been under the Kries of
Friedersdorf (renamed Biedrzychowice
Gorne, in Poland), all three towns being very close together.
Friedrich was Lutheran, but we believe Maria
was Catholic and we do not know if the church in Oberullerdorf at
that time was Lutheran or Catholic, but we
suspect it was Lutheran. There is still a church in Kopaczow,
but we suspect it is now Roman Catholic. From
information we have recieved, both Giessmannsdorf and
Friedersdorf are no longer there. Due to large coal
mining (Kopalnia Turow) the towns have been destroyed. Any
information regarding SCHMIDT or
SCHÖEN / SCHOEN / SCHON or where records could be found
would be greatly appreciated.
SCHOLZ, Trey
eMail address: Hwsiii@aol.com
My great-grandfather was born somewhere near or perhaps at
Striegau, Germany. He emigrated in the 1880's.
His passport says Dresden. We lost contact with the family left
in Germany at the end of WW II. Any leads to
civil or church records in present day Strzegom or surrounding
areas would be appreciated. Great grandfathers
name was Arthur Oscar SCHOLZ. I am pretty sure he emigrated
through Ellis Island.
Webmaster's Note: As you may know, Dresden is a city in
Sachwn (Saxony), not Silesia. Streigau was
south-west of Breslau. Where is Strzegom? You greatly limit the
potential effectiveness of your entry by not
sharing the names of Arthur Oscar's wife, their children and the
religion. Scholz was a rather common name in
Silesia with over 200 grooms listed in reference 5 below.

I am looking for information on Magdalena BUCHALE, born in
Silesia 23 July 1858. She was a Roman
Catholic and her parents were Francisci and Veronica LORENZ
Buchale. Magdalena emigrated to Albany,
New York with her fiance, Johan GAERTNER, son of Anton and
Franzisca POHLER Gaertner. Magdalena
and Johan sailed on the ship "England" to New York and arrived 18
July 1882. The Gaertner family was from
Tharnau. There is no evidence of any Buchale relatives in the
Albany, New York area.

I am looking for information on Frederick August HAIN who was
born 26 December 1830 at Breslau, Silesia,
Germany. His fathers name was Earnest Carl HAIN (Germany). His
mother's name is unknown. Frederick
emigrated to America about 1857. He married Rebecca
HOLLANDSWORTH 4 January 1861 at Gasconade

County, Missouri. He is buried in the
Hain Family Cemetery at Rosebud.
STAFFORD, Peary DIEBITSCH, Jr.
eMail address: pstaff@pipeline.com
I am searching for information on Heinrich Hermann DIEBITSCH, who
emigrated to the United States in 1850
and spent his career at the Smithsonian Institution. Smithsonian
records indicate that he was born 16 March
1818 at Neustadt, Silesia (now Prudnick, Poland), but family
records place his birth at Niesse, Prussia (now
Nysa, Poland). Apparently, his father was Chief Justice of
Badewitz (now Bogdanowice, Poland) and had a
castle there. He entered the University of Breslau in 1831 but
left it in 1835 to enter the Military Academy in
Berlin. He graduated as a Lieutenant in 1838 and rose to the
rank of Captain in the Prussian Army. He
supposedly served as a representitive to the Constitutional
Assembly in Frankfurt in 1848 before emigrating to
the U.S. in 1850. I would be very grateful if anyone can provide
information regarding him, his parentage,
career or relationship to Count Hans Karl Friedrich
DIEBITSCH-SALBANSKI (1785-1831), the Silesian born
Russian Field Marshall.

April 1883 at North Prairie, MN, His wife was Maria ROCZCYK,
born 4 November 1838 at Liebenau

and Maria are my great-great grandparents.
They emigrated to Morrison County, MN in 1872. They had 8
children. They were married on 20 November
1866 at Dammratsch, Poland. This might be the same location as
St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Falkowice,
Poland (Kreis Opole). Thanks for your help.

I'm beginning research into my father's family whose surname has
been spelt WIERZIMOK / WIERCIMOK /
WIERCZIMOK. As far as I know, the family was Catholic. In
particular: Who were the siblings of my
great-grandfather and great-great grandfather? My grandfather
JOSEF WIERZIMOK was born at Fruehauf,
Kreis Oppeln, Upper Silesia on 1 August 1898. He was married 9
November 1925 at Gumpertsdorf to Klara
WYSTRACH. His siblings names were: Teclar (or Thekla), Heromius
(or Heronymus), August and
Carl.
My great-grandfather Josef WIERZIMOK was born at Fruehauf 12
September 1866 and died 28 February 1931.
He was married to Johanna WOTZKA, born 27 December 1869.
(Siblings??). His father LORENZ was born
at FRUEHAUF on 29 September 1822 and died 27 April 1891. He was
married to Maria MICHALSKI born
10 July 1835 and died 12 February 1920. (Siblings?) The places:
The village of Fruehauf is now Ochodze. It
has been known variously as Ochotz, Ochoc, Hoc, Ochodze, Ochoze.
It was first recorded in 1295. The
village of Gumpertsdorf is now Komprachice. It was known through
the ages as Komprachczutz,
Komprachcice, Gumperti Villa, and Gomprachtitz. It was known in
1302. (Kreis Opplen is now Opole)
Thanks.
Slavic / Polish surnames usually indicate an ethnic Polish
family. Under such circumstances it is wise to
join a couple Polish genealogy societies for assistance.
