Since I had posted my first message on the FEEFHS website (7 June
1998), I have discovered a lot of information on the person I am
looking for. Here is my revised posting:
I am researching the life and work of an architect, Karol Schayer
(born 1900; died in the USA in 1971). He was born at Lvov,
Galicia in 1900 and studied at Lvov Polytechnic, then moved to
Katowice in Upper Silesia in 1927. In Poland, before the 2nd
World War, he had built a school at Piekari, a school at
Katowice, and the museum of Silesia at Katowice that was
destroyed during the 2nd World War. After a good career there,
he fled in 1939 to Turkey, then to Palestine. In 1946, he
settled in Beirut Lebanon where he designed and built many
remarkable pieces of modern architecture.
I would like to know more about the Polish soldiers and people
who were in Palestine between 1940 and 1946. I would like to
know whether he built anything there. He also drew Polish
landmark buildings and sites that were supposed to be displayed
in Polish clubs and associations. Later, a priest bought the
drawings, and published them in the United States. Unfortunately,
Schayer's name was not mentioned in the authorship of the book.
As the title of the book as well as the name of the priest are
unknown to me, I would appreciate any input on the matter by
people who would have come across any matter that would help.
BARON, Pat
eMail address: drbaron@gte.net
I am searching for information on August BARON and wife Maria
Louise KRETSCHMER who lived at or near Muensterberg, Schlesien,
Prussia 1846-1852. I have copies of the baptismal records for
the following children 1) Auguste Emelie Baron born 20 June 1846;
2)Louis Theodor Baron born 24 March 1850; 3) could not find; 4)
Theodor Oscar Oswald Baron born 13 June 1852. On Auguste
Emelie's records it stated there were 9 living daughters. It is
presumed that Maria Louise is the 2nd wife and possibly
the sister of the 1st wife.
I have the names and limited information on 2 of the 9 daughters
(the 2 younger ones Frances and Caroline). They emigrated to
Texas through the port of Galveston (probably Indianola, Texas
actually) and came to LaGrange, Texas before settling at Bastrop,
Bastrop county Texas. I would like to continue to find siblings
of either August or Maria Louise and/or information on the other
7 daughters. I am willing to share what I have. Thank you
BARTH, Richard G.
eMail address: Kingconndb@aol.com
I am looking for any information about Johann Joseph BARTH, born
in Schlesien, Preusen in 1806. He moved
to Koblenz, Germany where he married Catherina Josepha MEYER at
St. Kastor Catholic Church. They had
5 boys, Balthaser, William, Joseph Julius, Johann Heinrich and
Gottfried. Catherina died and Joseph emigrated
to Cleveland, Ohio with the boys. When taking the train from New
York, they intended to get off in Buffalo
but the luggage stayed on so they followed it to Cleveland.
Johann became Protestant. He died at Cleveland,
Ohio in 1893. Johann had been a shoe maker in Silesia but became
a cigar maker in Cleveland. I am looking
for any information about Johann in Silesia. What town, who his
parents were etc.
BENNETT, Jim
Haifa, Israel
eMail address: bennett@coral.co.il
I am seeking the details in the death registration of Martin
Blaschke, who died at Breslau on 7 November 1907.
I need his place of birth, names of parents, name of person
reporting death, etc. Does anyone have a contact
with a records researcher in Wroclaw willing to go to the USC and
look up this record for a small fee? Thank
you.
CRESPO, Eleonore
eMail address: EJCsRAC@webtv.net
I am looking for Ilse HAHNEL, born circa 1920 in or near
Schweidnitz, Silesia. She had three sisters and she
and her family lived on the Adolf Kessel Strasse. Ilses parents
had a beauty shop on Waldenburg Strasse in
Schweidnitz. During WW II Ilse was drafted into the German Air
Force. Before that she worked as a court
reporter for the Courthouse. I know she got married, but do not
know her married name. After the war she
relocated to former East Germany. Any information on Ilse or her
family, is greatly appreciated. I am trying
to locate her for my mother who was her best friend growing
up.
ERLEBACH, Marjorie
eMail address: mje@cyberhighway.net
My grandfather Herman Frank Erlebach was born at Hirschberg,
Breslau, Schlesia, 17 January 1867, and immigrated to the U.S. in
1882. I need to find out information on his parents. The region
is now Jelenia Gora, Poland. Can I get any suggestions from your
organization on where to write for birth information?
HERRMANN, Gunther
eMail address: GHerrm9877@aol.com
(Roman Catholic)
I am searching for information about Prof. Anton KABATH. He was
married with Friederica Auguste von
WEGIERSKA. They lived at Wraclaw, the earlier German city of
Breslau (Silesia). Their son was named
Emil Deodatus Augustinus KABATH, born 28 December 1830 at
Breslau, baptised at the church of St.
Matthew (Roman Catholic) at the same day. (Baptising Register No.
173). Even if you can't help me with my
main line of the family KABATH, you may have heard something
about the family of von WEGIERSKA. As I
found out the real name is WEGIERSKI and they belong to the
polish noblemen, WEGIERSKA is only the
female form. This part of my family is very interesting, because
this family had a polish king called LUDWIK
von WEGIERSKI. He was king of Poland from 1370 - 1381. Also
the first names FREDERICA AUGUSTE
show in that direction, because Poland has been ruled for some
years by the Saxonian King Frederic August (in
German: Friedrich August von SACHSEN). It would be very nice if
you could help me.>br>

My mother Marga GOLDSCHEIDER was born at Köln on 24 March
1913, emigrated to Argentina in
1936 and died 16 May 1993. Her father was Oskar GOLDSCHEIDER
born 29 September 1883 at Hamburg
and died 15 May 1915 as German soldier during the First World War
at Nadworna (today Nadwirna - Ukraine).
Her Grandfather was Julius GOLDSCHEIDER born 7 December 1848 at
Liebenthal and registered in the
Jewish Community of Hotzenplotz (today Osoblaha) - district of
Troppau (today Opava). The parents of Julius
were Juda GOLDSCHEIDER and AMALIE BÖHM. I wish to know more
about them. My research
through official institutions at Prague were unsuccessful. Best
regards.
KIESLER, Matthias
Sanaa, Republic of Yemen
eMail address: dada@y.net.ye
I am looking for some information on Wilhelm Eduard KIESLER, born
11 November 1828 at Gräflich
(Graeflich/Graflich) Wiese and was married to Renate Loise REHMET
on 6 June 1863. When did he die, who
are his parents, did he have any sisters or brothers?
Webmaster's Note: There probably is not an FHC anywhere close
to you, so here is some information:
There was a Kiesler "Pastor zu Giehren" who married Johanna
Christiana Bömer (Boemer/Bomer) at
Löwenberg (Loewenberg/Lowenberg) on 4 July 1797 (Reference:
the Schlesischen
Provinzialblättern listed below). The only Kiesler in
the FHL surname search section is a
genealogy of the descendants of Henry Kiesler who was born in
Germany, fought in the US Revolutionary War
and died in South Carolina in 1802. Rehmet do not show in either
place. The default suggestion is a time -
consuming one , but something you probably must research: Ahemestammkartei des
Deutschen Volkes. Also
remember the strong possibility exists for alternate spellings
such as Kiestler and Kiessler.
LLOYD, Brigitte GASTEL
eMail address: brigitte@qrz.com
I am looking for the descendants of Gustav Adolf RIEDEL, born 5
November 1850 at Langenbielau, county
Reichenbach, Silesia. He married in Hamburg in 1882 Christiana
Friederike VOLLMERS / SCHULT (my
great grandmother and her 2nd marriage). Together with her (I
assume that since the ship records mention a 4
year old daughter called Anna Riedel) - her legal name would have
been Anna Henriette Wilhelmine Schult
called Bruening - unless she was adopted in the meantime by
Gustav A. Riedel, which could have been possible.
The three of them emigrated on 22 November 1882 to New York, USA
on the ship "Rugia". (The NY ship
passenger arrival list is dated about 10 December 1882, however,
no destination point was given).
For further information please check my home
page. I hope to hear from a *matching* Riedel.
There were at least 30 Riedel men married in Silesia between
1785 and 1849 including two Kaufman
(businessmen) in Reinchenbach (to Johanna Carolina Lampert 15
July 1789 and to Luise Henrietta from
Emsdorf on 1 November 1820 (Reference: the Schlesischen
Provinzialblättern listed below.
There also are also FHL microfilms available for two Reichenbach
locations in Silesia - kreis Sagar and
Kreisstadt Riechenbach. You have your work cut out for you.
NEWMAN, Gene
eMail address: gnewman@monroe.edu
I am seeking information on the family of Christian Friederich
NEUMANN. He was born at Schmolln
Germany 9 August 1850. His wife was Wilhelmina (nee) THIEL /
THIELE NEUMANN. His father was
Wilhelm NEUMANN and his mother was Marie (nee) WENDT NEUMANN. He
emigratedn to the US
between 1882-1889. I am interested in finding out if there are
any other brothers or sisters in this family, and
anything at all about grandparents. Thank you.
O'HARA, Belanna
eMail address: oharafamily@yahoo.com
(Roman Catholic)
I am looking for Andreas / Andreius DITTMAN, born 27 September
1834 at Rocksdorf, Silesia, Prussia. His
wife was Mary Elizabeth MENCHEN / MENCKEN, born 1846 in
Alsace-Lorraine. I do not have a marriage
date for them, but I know that Andreas served in the Union army,
early in the US Civil War, so he had to have
come over before 1862. He enlisted with a regiment from
Gallipolis, Ohio, but the family seems to have
resided mainly at Cincinnati, Ohio. His son, Jacob Nicholas
Dittmann, was born there 26 November 1885.
This is not very much information, I know, but anything you can
find out would be very much appreciated. I
believe
the family would be Catholic, although I can only vouch for the
last 3 generations.
OLSCHOWSKI, Gerald
eMail address: 106226.3614@compuserve.com
I am searching for informations about the brothers, sisters and
parents of my grandfather Alfred
OLSCHOWSKI. He was born on the 15th June 1894 at Bielitz, Upper
Silesia. His parents names were Paul
and Maria OLSCHOWSKI (maiden name Maria BYRSKI, born 1863?, died
7 July 1920 at Heiligenkreuz,
Tirol, Austria). From pictures I know that there were several
sisters and brothers of my grandfather Alfred,
but their names and destinies are unknown. Any informations
would be very helpful, because I am working on
my family ties.
RING, Alison U.
eMail address: wydra@direct.ca
Franz KUSCH or KUSZ was born 6 May 1868 in Gwoszian, died 1
February 1940 at Wieschowa. His wife was Margarethe KOWALSKI
born 13 July 1891 at Wieschowa. Her parents were Paul KOWALSKI
and Marianna BROJA. Any information about these people, dates of
birth, death, marriage, parents etc. would be much
appreciated.
WEHNER, Beverly
eMail address: bwehner@juno.com
I am seeking the birthplace or other information on Herman Ernest
RIEGER (born 2 August 1862 in Germany,
died 9 September 1902 at St. Louis, Missouri) and his bride Anna
M. PESTINGER (born 18 December 1862 in
Oberschlesion, Germany, died about 8 January 1923 at St. Louis,
Missouri. They emigrated in 1890-1891 (too
late for Germans to America series and ship lists represent 33
rolls of microfilm). Herman's naturalization
papers state Germany -- only. They settled briefly at Hermann,
Missouri then moved to St. Louis. A family
legend says that Herman was an orphan due to cholera epidemic,
was Protestant, worked in Germany as wagon
maker and vegetable huckster, and spoke Low German. Anna was the
child of Frank and Johannah C.
PESTINGER. Anna was Catholic, a "French seamstress" and spoke
High German. Their wedding celebration
lasted three days. Herman emigrated first. Then he sent for his
wife who requested her mother Johannah
Christina PESTINGER and sister Pauline PESTINGER accompany her
along with child Gertrude (born about
June 1886) and Mary Louise (born 6 September 1889 in Germany,
died 30 November 1946 at Shrewsbury, St
Louis county, Missouri). Death certificates state only "Germany"
as birthplace. Only clue to birthplace of
Mary louise PESTINGER WEHNER (my husband's mother) is that one
of her son's inducted into WW II was
required to get that information and he believes she said Bad
Reinerz. Death certificate says Rhine Ertz.
Another family member thinks Herman came from Kiel. No documents
remain. Distance from Kiel to Reinerz
seems too far for courtship. Any suggestions will be much
appreciated.
Webmaster's note: Have you entered your surnames into the
FEEFHS Website Index? (see navigation
links at the top and bottom of this and every web page here).
There are 63 different hot links to Rieger stuff on
the FEEFHS Website. Read them all. Then pay particular
attention to item # 56. A reel of Ahnenstammkartei
microfilm exists for variations of your surname. Read the
article on how to use that collection. There are also
19 different hot links to Wehner stuff on the FEEFHS Website,
including item # 5 (3 reels of
Ahnenstammkartei microfilm exist for Wehner). There may be
Pestinger stuff in that 1,248 reel collection
too.
