Michel PYPLACZ, born 1851 and Szymon PYPLACZ, born 1845 to Joseph PYPLACZ and Sofia GARCZAZEK. They were christened at Myslowitz in the region of Kattowitz, Schlesien and immigrated to Chicago, Illinois, between 1883 and 1910. Michel GOJ / GOI/ GOY, cousin of Michel & Szymon, also immigrated to Chicago and became an M.D. Joseph PYPLACZ, born 1881; and Valeska PYPLACZ, born 1874 were children of Joseph PYPLACZ, and they immigrated to Hammond, Indiana, in 1891. Their mother, Franciszka, married a KRANOCK (spelling?). Their surname was changed to PYPLATZ in the U.S. Can anyone add any further information? Can anyone link Michel and Szymon PYPLACZ to Joseph PYPLACZ, the father of Joseph and Valeska? Thank you.z
Joe Reimann's comments: I couldn't find Kattowitz in the Kowallis Atlas, but found it on a map of Oberschlesien, just outside of the boundary (southeast of Hindenburg). I checked Kattowitz (now Kattowice), in an old encyclopedia and it said that it was within the Silesia coal fields and controlled by Germans prior to World War I.

BORCHARDT, Silke
eMail address: silkeborchardt@yahoo.de

I am looking for information about Mr. Friedrich (Fritz) ROHLEDER, born 1908 or 1909. He came to Glogau, county of Liegnitz, Silesia during the Second World War, working at the "Kreisbauernschaft Glogau" (a farmers union). Originally he came from somewhere near Berlin, where his family stayed. He had rented only a furnished room at Glogau. He became acquainted with Miss Annemarie PETERMANN. In 1941 or 1942 he left Glogau. As far as I know, he was sent to Riga, Latvia as a "Kriegsverwaltungsinspektor" (administrator). There his trace vanishes. He had at least one son, born 1942, from his second wife. As far as I know, he had two sisters. Thank you for any helpful information!

BOTHUR, Charles C. (SAGS Member)
eMail address: CBo4564063@aol.com

My grandfather, Robert August BOTHUR, was born at Breslau, Silesia, Germany in 1890 to August Karl Bothur and Martha Machui. The Von Machui ssssurname has a noble background in Prussia. Robert emmigrated from Germany to America at a young age and was employed by the North German Lloyd Lines at sea until he took leave at the port of New York in 1908, and he was later naturalized as a citizen of the USA. His family members back at Breslau were Karl, Fritz, and Anna. Any information on the Bothur Family in Germany would be appreciated. There are a few Bothur families in the US. The surname appears to originate from Silesia.

I am seeking information about Carl Franz BRAUNER, born 2 December 1837 at Wachtel-Kunzendorf, Schlesia. He married Anna Maria REIMANN / RAIMANN. They were parents of 12 children, some which died as infants and children. I have information about first son Emil, (my great-grandfather) Brauner. They lived at Waissak, Jagerndorf, and Wachtel-Kunzendorf. Has anyone ever heard of these places? I have found films at the FHL for Kunzendorf and that where most of my research starts. Emil BRAUNER married Ernestine KUFFEL. Her father was Johann KUFFEL and he left her a small farm. I would like to find something about the Kuffel family line. Thank you.

DECKER, Henry

I am looking for information on my great-grandfather August KIESEWETTER. August was born 23 October 1861 to Gottlieb and Dorothy Kiesewetter. August's brothers were Gottlieb, Karl and Ernst. August emigrated from Ohlau, Germany (Olawa, Poland) sometime around 1890. I understand that this was considered Silesia at the time. I'm having a hard time finding out where to look for info due to the border changes. ANY help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

FREED, Janine

I am seeking information on the above families who resided in Breslau Germany during World War II. Eva BLOCH was my grandmother, who unfortunately perished at Treblinka in May 1942. Her parents names were Dr. Max BLOCH and Luise (nee SKLAREK). I am looking for information on my great-grandfather as well as he held a diplomatic passport and was involved with the negotiations in Geneva in 1919 re the Polish German Frontier (unfortunately that is all I know). Eva had one brother called Freidrich BLOCH who married Herta and they had 2 children named Eleanor and Klaus. I believe Eleanor married and now resides in Australia. Eva married my grandfather, Dr. Arnold FUCHS, and had two children, Hans (my father came to London in 1939) and Franz (he went to Sweden). Arnold Fuchs was either murdered or died of a heart attack just after the Kristalnacht in November 1938. Eva and Arnold lived at Gartenstrasse 97, Breslau II and also 40 Gartenstrasse, Breslau. I believe my grandfather had a surgery on Kaiser Wilhelm Strasse. I understand they also owned a property at Steinseiffen (?). I am looking for anyone who knew my family as well as for Heinz PEITROWSKI (born March 1919), who had one sister. Gerhard JACOBWITZ (born 19 June 1922) and whose parents are called Max and Betty (nee Goldschmidt). If anyone knows anything or can guide me further I would be most grateful. Thanking you in advance.

I am looking for information of my Silesian ancestors, the family name is KANDORA. Somebody told me that the original name was spelled KANDEL. I know that the city of origin is Beuthen, Upper Silesia. My great-grandfather was Michael KANDORA, who married Wally KORSENIETZ. Later they changed theri name to Wally K&ONIGSHORST (KOENIGSHORST / KONIGSHORST), but I really don't know why. They lived between the years 1870 and 1925. That is all the information I have.

KATZENMEIER, Wendy
eMail address: WENDEL@aol.com

I have recently determined that my great-greataunt, Julia KLUGE, was born about 1847 at Breslau, Silesia. She was married to Frank NAVROTH and I think the marriage took place in Cook county, Illinois. Julia had 5 known siblings, Cecelia KLUGE (sssshe married Johann Gottfried THIEL in "the old country"), Marie KLUGE (married Gustav WEIGT in Cook county, Illinois), Pauline KLUGE (married Carl STEIF / STEIFF possibly in Posen), Julius KLUGE (married Emilie STEIFF in Cook county, Illinois) and Joseph KLUGE (married Anna POPENHAGEN in Cook county, Illinois). Their father's name may have been Harry or Christ or a variation of these. I am trying to work my way backwards from Julia and her siblings.

I am reseaching my great-great-grandmother: Auguste Henriette STEINERT, born 2 May 1842, died 20 September 1930. Auguste was born at Steinau (under the Oder River) in Silesia Prussia which is now called Wroclaw Poland. Auguste emigrated from Hamburg on the ship "Reiherstig" on 22 June 1854 and arrived at Port Adelaide South Australia 26 October 1854. In her obituary it states that Auguste came to Australia accompanied by relatives (she was 12 years old) and that she went to live with relatives already farming in the Barossa Valley area of South Australia. I have an old photo showing Auguste as a child and it appears she has brothers and sisters although there is no mention of them coming to Australia. Auguste married Carl BRENTZELL at Greenoch South Australia 16 June 1864. I am wondering if you have any family history of STEINERT going to Australia within your family tree? Thank you.

I need help locating family of Joseph KOSSICK, who was born 19 March 1863 at Kupp, Germany. All information I have is from US naturalization paperwork Joseph filled out in 1919, some 33 years after he emigrated from Hamburg, in 1886. It's possible that the family name was spelled COSIC and changed after living in America for some time. The name of his first wife was Julia SALGA. It's possible that they met and married in Kupp or surrounding area, as I am not able to find her name on any formal documents (the custom at that time of the wife being included under her husband's name). Joseph's second wife's name was Elizabeth VEITH, who was born at Pierce, Minnesota. The KOSSICK'S raised their family at Moorhead, Minnesota, and were Roman Catholic. I have found some great links to databases and other sites through FEEFHS, unfortunately they don't include either COSIC, KOSSICK, SALGA or VEITH. Any pointers? Thanks for any help you can provide.
Joe Riemann's Comments: I checked the FHL Catalog for Kupp and didn't find any others for Germany. There is one for Silesia in the Kowallis Atlas. Kupp was located in the Oppeln precinct and Oppeln county (in upper Silesia).

I am trying to find any information on my great-great-grandfather, Wilhelm WALTER / WOLTER (born 20 May 1833, died 20 May 1901) or his family. According to his journal, he was born at Rudelphwaldau, Kreis Waldenberg, Schlesien. His parents were Christian and Elizabeth WALTER. His first wife was Johanne Charlotte HANNING. After her death and the death of their two children, he married Ernestine Caroline KASPAR / KASPER / CASPER / CASPAR. Her parents were Carl KAPAR and Caroline WEISSNER. Wilhelm and Ernestine WALTER had several children starting in 1864 at Wuestegiersdorf, Kreis Waldenberg, Schlesien. They immigrated to Pittsfield Massachusetts in 1890. There was also a word of a niece of Wilhelm WALTER's by the name of Else SCHULTZ who lived at Berlin in 1959. Any information on her would also be greatly appreciated.

I was born at Rehmet, Silesia and am living at Munich Germany now. My father, G&unter (Guenter / Gunter) REHMET was born in 1930 and died in 1975. He came from Breslau. I have 4 brothers, if you are intersted, please contact me.

SCHLIEBITZ, Christian
eMail address: I.u.Chr.Schliebitz@t-online.de

I am seeking for the father of Christian SCHLIEBITZ. He was a supervisor (Aufseher) in the Royal Workhouse (Königliches Arbeitshaus) at Brieg, Silesia. He must have been born about 1785. His place of birth and also the exact date of his birth is unknown and since the dead man book of the city of Brieg has disappeared also the date of his death is unknown. He was married in a first marriage to Caroline ZAHN. The birth and death dates of Caroline Zahn als well as place and year of this marriage are unknown. The second son from this first marriage of Christian Schliebitz was Ernst Heinrich Schliebitz, born 16 November 1817 at Brieg, christened as a Protestant on 19 November 1817 at Brieg. All the godfathers of Ernst Heinrich Schliebitz written down on the church register of the protestant church in Brieg are from Breslau: Philipp ALTER, Kanzellist; Friederike Schliebitzin; Henriette ALTER; Gottlob GUERTLER, baker = Baecker; Christian Gottfried FICHTNER, bellringer = Glöckner; and Christian HENSCHEL, midwife = Hebamme. So we assume that Christian Schliebitz and perhaps also Caroline Zahn came from Breslau to Brieg. In 1834 a second marriage of the widower Christian Schliebitz is registered in the church register of Brieg. His age is indicated in this entry was 49 years. So he must be born by 1785.

SCZEPANSKI, Betty

I am looking for information concerning my great-great-grandfather, Ernst Heinrich SOMMER, who was born about 1834 at Gersdorf, Bunzlau, Silesia. He married Johanna Karoline PAHL (born abou 1839 at Gersdorf, Bunzlau, Silesia). They had at least two children, Anna Emilie Bertha SOMMER (born 19 January 1864 at Gersdorf) and Friedrich Herrmann Robert SOMMER (born 8 January 1869 at Gersdorf, married Auguste Louse Pauline SAUER on 2 Dec 1892, died 5 June 1944 at Goerlitz, Silesia). I am unable to find further records on my family from Silesia. My great-grandfather, August Richard DEHMEL, born 2 October 1863 at Bunzlau is the last certain relative that I have found. We believe his mother was Johanna Dousal, born 1835, but I have no information on his father. Johanna remarried (we assume after her husband's death) a Johann Fredrich STARKE and they had a number of children. August Richard married Luise Anna FAHRENBRUCH (born 30 July 1867) at St. Jacobi cchurch in Berlin on 13 April 1887. My grandfather Richard Andrew DEHMEL, born 15 August 1887 was baptized at the Evangelical Lutheran church at Bunzlau as was his sister Anna Emma DEHMEL. August Richard and his family emigrated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in the late 1890's as did several of the STARKE children. Johanna (DOUSAL) STARKE moved in with one of her children, a prominent butcher in Kiel, and she died there on 12 September 1911. I am very interested in learning more about the DEHMEL family from the area around Bunslau but I have been unable to find any records from the area. Any help or guidance is appreciated.

My great-greatgrandfather was: Johann Wilhelm Laurentius STEIN born and baptized 22 June 1823 at Trier in the Liebfrauen Kirche. He married Carolina WILLMAN of SCHLESIEN who lived and/or worked in the Stein home in Trier (this is uncertain - we don't know what happened). She married Wilhelm and they had Ernst Stein and Carolina, Ernst and Carolina's brother came to Texas mid 1800's after Wilhelm came to Texas; he fled Germany (Prussia at the time) due to the fact that he was a Revolutionary Soldier. The family is Catholic but we have always believed we are Jewish by race on that side of the family. I am interested for geneaology purposes only. Key first names are Wilhelm, Ernst and Alfred (my grandfather's first name-he didn't know who he was named after and the Stein family was supposed to have sold silk or had a silk factory in Trier and receipts were signed by an "Alfred Stein" from Trier when material was bought from the M. Halff Co. At San Antonio Texas during the early 1940's. Johann Wilhelm Laurentius Stein, born 1823, had sisters: Maria Johanna born 1820, married Johann Georg (Church records state SCHNEIDER but our family Death Card states SCHMIDT-he was a merchant in Trier); other sister: Catharina Juliana Stein (born 1822) and Maria Elisabeth Luise (born 1825, all born and baptized at Trier / Liebfrauen Kirche). Wilhelm's 1/2 brothers from his father and Catharina Schlink were Peter Heinrich, who married Amalia VON THIELMANN in 1855 and Carl Wilhelm came to Guadalupe county Texas where he died. I have more Stein geneology till Johanna PAULI (born / baptized in 1770 at Trier - St. Laurentius) / STEIN, Johann Peter Wilhelm (born / baptized in 1795 at Trier - St. Gangolf) marriage. I am looking for the WILLMAN zu SCHLESIEN line and parents. I also would like to find the Stein family of the silk factory at Trier in the early 1940's and have been unsuccessful.
