I am looking for information on my great-great-grandparents,
Julius and Elizabeth DANNHAUER. From what I am getting from the
German translation, their Prussian names were possibly Johann or
Johannes DANNENHAUER, born around 1790. His wife's name is
Johann Catarine Elisabeth ABMUS (and I am not sure the exact
American spelling, but the German spelling is ABMUS). Her father
may be Heinrich ABMUS and mother is Sophie Dorothea ABMUS. I am
also looking for Sophia Magdalena KIBNER, born 16 January 1795.
I am nor sure of the link there. Her parents were Andreas KIBNER
HAUBLER father and Johanna Sophie ZELLTERN. The DANNENHAUER'S
had two children that were born in Germany; there American names
were Ernst (born around 1830) and Sarah (born around 1832).
Sarah's German name was possibly Sabina DANNHAUER SCHRADER, but I
do not have a German name for Ernst. I have written to Germany
for information, which came back in German and I translated the
letter through Altavista/babelfish, so I am not sure of the
spellings of the translations. I seem to be hitting a brick
wall, and I am not sure which way to go. Any help you may be
able to provide would be greatly appreciated.
GIESE, Elmer G.

I am looking for a GIESE family of Pudwitz bei Posen. A family
member named Theodore F. GIESE was suppose to have been born
there on 16 June 1861, to Ferdinand Giese and Barbara BUSCH
(maiden name) but I can not confirm any of this information.
They went to a Lutheran church in Wisconsin. Any help will be
greatfully appreciated.

I am trying to find out information on how to obtain records for
my ancesters but I am having a very difficult time. I live in
Canada and have only a couple leads as too where my great-
grandfather came from. Sylvester GORA, born 31 December 1860 at
Prussia, died 25 January 1925 in Admaston township, Ontario,
Canada. The parents of Sylvester were Thomas Gora and Margaret
LAURECK. On the ship list "Germans to America", it has his name
spelt Silvester Gora from Ilowa Prussia, left port of Bremer &
Bremerhaven on the ship "Koeln", 10 April 1881. It also listed
three other Gora's on the ship with him: Dominik Gora, 30 years;
Marianne Gora, 23 yrs; and Max Gora, 9 months. They all landed
in Baltimore and that is all I have untill he came to Canada in
1882. It looks like he was alone when he came here and I am lost
as to where to try to gain some kind of records about him or his
parents from Prussia. I did a name search and it lists Gora name
as comming from Posen, Lubuskie which I have found is not far
from Ilowa, so would their be someplace which
would have the information such as birth certificate? or marriage
for his parents? Thanks.
KOWALSKY, Gloria A.
eMail address: jgkowalsky@marathonkey.com
I am trying to find the birthplace of my father, Steve KOWALSKY,
(given name probably STEFAN). He was born in 1893 and emigrated
to America as a young man. I have found two possibilities on the
new Ellis Island Passenger Record list but cannot find anything
about either of the two towns listed as place of residence. One
is Nedsakow, Russia and gives the port of departure as Libau,
Posen, Prussia, Germany. The other one from Rorysow, Russia
gives Triest, Austria, Austria-Hungary as the port of departure.
My sisters believe he came from somewhere in the Ukraine and we
know he had relatives there named Nagorny. He lived for a time in
Elizabeth, New Jersey and later on in Baltimore, Maryland where
he died. We are trying to determine if either of these two
possibilities is our father.
LENZ, Erhard

I am searching for background of Otelia STREICH, born: 18 January
1887 in Posen, Germany (?). Her father was Friedrich STREICH; her
mother was Juliana KALL; and her brother was Ferdinand STREICH.
My mother, Otelia, married Emil LENZ, date unknown. She
immigrated to America between 1906 and 1915, port unknown. She
died 16 August 1930, at Parkers Prairie, Minnesota. My father,
Emil Lenz, was born 6 February, 1886 (city unknown) in Germany or
Russia. Emil Lenz immigrated to America through Ellis Island,
Oct 1906 ? Emil Lenz's father was August Lenz ?, mother was
Augusta CLATT ?. A brother was Adolph LENZ, who was about 10
years younger than my father. My father died in the Ottertail
county sanitarium, Battle Lake, Minnesota, 6 October 1927. I
need help in searching for backgrounds of: Emil LENZ, Otelia
STREICH, Ferdinand STREICH, and Adolph LENZ. Their occupation
was farming, and they lived in the Parkers Prairie, Minnesota
area. Thanks.

I am trying to find information on my grandmother who was born in
Posen (Posner). Her name was Minna Martha Hulda SCHULZ. She was
born 3 August 1881. Her parents were Ernestine Wilhelmina
ZARBOCH, born 4 September 1850, who married Johann Gotlieb
SCHULZ. I believe they immigrated to the United States around
1884 or 1895. Any help would be greatly appreciated or perhaps
you can steer me to the best web sites to get information.
Thanking you in advance.
MANTEHI, David
eMail address: janetmanthei@computron.net
I am looking for information on Johann Fredrick MANTHEI, born 28
February 1842 in Posen and Charlotte Ernestine HEDTKE, born in
1855. They were married in Posen, but I do not know where. I also
need to know where Otielia MANTHEI is buried. She(?) died has a
infant. I would like to know their parents names also.
MARQUARDT, Sean
eMail address: seanmaureen@core.com
The MARQUARDT Family of Samotschein (Posen) is my family of
origin. One, Gus A. MARQUARDT, was born there in 1845. This
town name was mentioned on a marriage record found in Valparaiso,
Indiana (my great-great-grandfather was born there). How do I
begin to locate a village that was possibly renamed in the
transfer of German territories and Polish borders? Any help
would be appreciated.

I need help in researching my GGrandparents: Christopher Koerth,
born approximately 1834 in Prussia and Mary JARFA, born 7 October
1842 or 1840. They landed in New York around 1860-1870. Also my
other set of Great-great-grandparents: Martin George KRAUSE, born
2 November 1849 at Mogilino, Province Posen, Prussia. He
immigrated to the USA, arriving 6 May 1872. His wife was Emilie
Auguste LUEDTKE, born 16 January 1860 at Schokken, Province
Posen, Prussia. Martin left Hamburg on the ship "Saxonia" to New
Orleans. I need Martin's parents' names. Emilie Auguste's
parents were Martin Luedtke and Henriette BOCK. Also need Martin
Luedtke's parents' names. Henriette Bock was born 27 November
1829 at Przysieka, Province Posen, Prussia. Her parents were
Martin Bock and Anna Caroline DEGNER. They resided and died in
Przysieka. I have a copy of Martin Luedtke's will leaving land
located near the town of Schokken in the Province Posen in the
Kingdom of Prussia, said tract of land being numbered there and
called "Grundstuet Schooken No. 2" to my Great Grandmother Emilie
Auguste Luedtke. I would appreciate any information anyone can
give me on these ancestors and the location of this land today.
Especially trying to locate ancestors of my great-grandparents
Christopher and Mary Jarfe (I have her picture). We know she
immigrated to America with an uncle and worked as a maid for a
family at New York City around 1870. I found a Marie Jarfe who
arrived in New York April 1869 at the age of 25 on the ship
"Holestia" that left from Hamburg-Havre, but I have been unable
to find this ship's passenger list. Any and all help will be
appreciated. I would be glad to pay for this information if
necessary. Thank you

I am tring to find the origin of my ancestors. Great-grandfather
G. A. MARQUARDT was born in 1845 in Prussia (Posen). On one
document he named a town as Samotschein. I have located a
facsimile of that spelling on an old map. It appears on the
eastern border probably close to present day Poland. He
immigrated to America at 6 years of age, with his parents:
Gustave Julius MARQUARDT and Christina WEISS MARQUARDT. G.A.
MARQUARDT was born 6 December 1845 at Samotschein, Prussia,
Provence of Posen. Gustav Audabon MARQUARDT married Johanna
Marguerita MOHNSENN on 25 October 1867 at Valparaiso Indiana. He
was first found there in 1861 as a grocer. I have not been able
to find Gustave Julius or Christina in the USA on any US Federal
Census lists. This information was obtained from marriage
records at Valparaiso, Indiana, USA. Help would be
wonderful.

I am looking for the marriage record of my grandparents from
Fraustadt. I have a postcard with a church on it that says:
Fraustadt-Grenzmark, Ev. Kirche Kripplein Christi
I believe that is where they were married on 17 January 1903.
Their names were Helene THIELE, born at Hirschbach, and Fred
BECKER, born at Blankenrode. If anyone knows how to obtain this
information please let me know.

The information that I have was obtained from family members. I
am not one hundred percent sure of the translation of the
locations. Johann Wilhelm Gottlieb BLOCK was born 17 May 1812 at
Gieseanaue, Kreis Landsberg, Rgbs. (I don't know the translation)
Frankfurt, an der Oder. His parents are Michael and Sophia
(MARX) Block. He married Maria Elizabeth (Steinborn) BLOCK, the
widow of his brother Michael BLOCK. They were married on 21 July
1836 in Samotschin, Kolmar, Bromberg, Posen, Prussia. Maria
Elizabeth (STEINBORN) Block died on an unknown date in an unknown
place before 1848. Johann Wilhelm Gottlieb BLOCK died on 27
January 1901 at Sidney, Champaign county, Illinois.
The children of Johann Wilhelm and Maria Elizabeth (STEINBORN)
BLOCK are: 1. August Emanuel BLOCK born 5 March 1837 at Ratschin,
Kolmar, Bromberg, Posen. He married Charlotte Dorothea KLINGER
on 07 March 1859 at Champaign, Champaign county, Illinois. He
died 03 June 1919 at Sidney, Champaign County, Illinois. 2.
Johann Ludwig Franz BLOCK born 6 February 1839 at Ratschin,
Kolmar, Bromberg, Posen. He died 18 September 1849 at Ratschin,
Kolmar, Bromberg, Posen. Johann Wilhelm Gottlieb BLOCK married
Henriette Wilhelmina CORNELIUS on 13 December 1848 at Nalenscha,
Kreis Codsiesan, Rgbs. Bromberg. Henriette Wilhelmina
(CORNELIUS) Block died 5 April 1879 at Champaign, Champaign
county, Illinois. The child of Johann Wilhelm Gottlieb BLOCK
was: Theodore Leopold BLOCK born 3 October 1851 in Germany. He
married Marie Pauline BLOCK (his first cousin) on 15 February
1871 in St. Peter's German United Congregational Evangelical
church at Champaign, Champaign county, Illinois. Theodore
Leopold BLOCK died 19 June 1923 in Philo, Champaign county,
Illinois. Johann Wilhelm Gottlieb BLOCK married Sophia Anna
Fredricke BEI on 28 April 1880 in St. Peter's United German
Congregational Evangelical church, Champaign, Champaign county,
Illinois. Sophia was a widow whose former married name was
REHBERG.
I am also reearching the family line of Rudolph SCHENDEL or ( VON
SCHENDEL ), born February 1826 at Kolmar, Posen, Prussia (now
Chodziez, Poznan, Poland). The birth date taken from the 1900 US
Federal Census. Religion practiced in the United States
Lutheran, therefore I assume the same in his homeland. He
married (about 1858) in Posen, Prussia to Rosamunda LAGHANS /
LANGHANS, born about 1840; the 1880 United States Census says she
born in Prussia. She also attended the Lutheran Church. The
children of Rudolph and Rosamunda SCHENDEL are: Charles Julius
SCHENDEL, born 24 September 1859; Amanda SCHENDEL born March
1861; Otto Frank SCHENDEL, born 18 December 1865; and Emma
SCHENDEL, born August 1863. The United States Census for 1880
gives Prussia as the birth place for these four children. The
couples other two children were born in the United States. They
are: Olga SCHENDEL, born about 1872 in Allegheny county,
Pennsylvania; and Edward SCHENDEL, born about 1874 in Allgheny
county, Pennsylvania. Their birth dates are extrapolated from
the 1880 United States Census. Two younger children died in
their early teens I am told. The couple family seemed to have
lived at Braddock or North Braddock, Allegheny county,
Pennsylvania. I was told the children were confirmed in the
Lutheran Church. If so they were probably Baptized in a Lutheran
church as well. I am trying to find out what Lutheran church
they might have attened there or a source for such
information.

I'm searching for parents, siblings, and spouse of Julianna
Wilhelmine KARAU (1828-1911). Those places and people are
unknown. Her death certificate indicates that Karl KARAU was her
father. Julianna married Friedrich Wilhelm SCHUuml;TZ (SCHUETZ,
SCHUTZ) about 1856. Their five children were christened
Evangelische in Danzig 1856-1870. A family story suggests that
Julianna, or ancestors, were not always Evangelische. One
child's christening in Danzig, had witness Bertha Henriette
KARAU. Later, Bertha married Julius Hermann TYBUSSECK (TYBUSSEK)
at Danzig about 1861. The parents, siblings, and spouse are also
unknown for Friedrich Wilhelm SCHUuml;TZ (SCHUETZ, SCHUTZ)
(1831-1910). His death certificate indicates that Ferdinand
SCHüTZ was his father. Friedrich & Julianna (KARAU) SCHUuml;TZ
(SCHUETZ, SCHUTZ) immigrated to California about 1892. No KARAU
kin have been found in the United States or Germany.

I have done genealogy worked for several years in Posen,
especially in the county of Bomst (Babimost) and Fraustadt
(Wschowa). My family came from the village Mauche (Mochy) near
Wollstein (Wolsztyn). I started with a family research and found
a very interested mayor of this village and we started
ccorrsponding with very good cooperation and I wrote my
dissertation about the history of this area, the Cistercian
monastery of Fehlen-Priment (Wielen- Przemet) and a sociological
excurse about the living together of Roman Catholic and
Protestant people, about German and Polish people. People coming
from the former East Germany raved about my book, and even the
Polish people enjoyed it. They want to translate my book this
year and I now write for both German and Polish newspapers.
With some interested people we found a history club about the
Provinz Posen, called "DGV" (Deutscher Geschichtsverein des
Posener Landes). We were founded in 2000 and started with
seminars at the East Academy (Ost-Akademie) at Lüneburg.
They
were a big success and in the near future we hope to have the
first trip to Poland. I think this is interesting for you and
your Research List. We look forward for a new way of living
together between old and young Germans and Polish, coming from
this area or be new in this subject. We want to help everyone
for a better live together, and of course we would be happy to
find friends all over the world.

I have two related questions of which I am looking for
assistance: 1. Does anyone know of the location or other possible
names or spellings for a village or city named Strzelec located
in Posen Province? There are other locations with similar names
which I have found on maps, but nothing with the exact spelling.
I'd like to try to narrow the possibilities before starting to
search LDS Records. 2. As an update, I am searching for
information regarding my paternal grandmother Bertha RECHEIZER
(REHEIZER, REGEISER), born at Strzelec, Posen, 09 February 1890.
Her parents were Friedrich RECHEIZER and Christine KELLER. She
had a brother Adolf, born 08 December 1884 at Warshau, and two
known sisters, Henriette (Jetta), and Olga. Adolf immigrated to
the United States around 1907 and was naturalized in 1916.
Bertha and Jetta immigrated together and arrived at Ellis Island
in December 1911. Bertha married first Friedrich HOFFMAN and
second Karl WALZ. Olga stayed in Germany and married a man named
PEKRUL. They had a son named Oskar and a daughter Anna. At least
at one time they lived at Schulten Kamp, Germany.

His wife's maiden name was Julianna PALZIN (POLZIN). I am not
sure if they were born in Posen, but I do know that they arrived
in America in l893. I am desperately seeking more information

I was wondering if the town of Militsch falls within your area of
interest. I recently bought a painting of the Grace Evangelical
Lutheran Church at Militsch. I have roots in Pommern, mostly in
the Kreis Greifenberg area, and spotted the church as being from
Prussia right away. I was wondering if anyone on your list has
been to Militsch, if the church is still there today, and if any
families know anything about it. I know there are lots of old
German churches acting as Catholic churches in what is now
Poland. Any help or suggestion would be appreciated.
