I am looking for the name of my great-great-grandfather's father.
My great-great-grandfather was Wilhelm MATHWIG (born about 1833)
in Posen Germany. He immigrated to the United States before 1865
and settled at Merrill, Wisconsin where he married Wilhelmina
SCHMUDLACH. He died 10 July 1921 in Wisconsin. His father's
name may have been GOTTLIEB. This is all I know.
ATKINSON, Linda
eMail address: linda@kinson.org
George (Adalbert) SAS was born about 1841. His parents were Matt
SAS and Mary (unknown). He married Michalina GOLATE / GOLATA
about 1846 in Posen (unknown if city or province). Her parents
were Thomas GOLATE and Mary (unknown). George and Michalina had a
daughter, Katherine, who was born in 1864, in Posen.

I am seeking information about the origins and parents of Augusta
Emilie (Amalie) KLOPSCH, my great-great-grandmother, from
Bernbaum, Anderwarte, Posen. Birnbaum, Gropherzogthiem, Posen
is also mentioned in another document. She was married in the
church of the German Evangelical Orthodox parish to James BRIGGS
in 1848 at New Orleans, Louisiana. The 1860 New Orleans census
gives her age as 28, indicating her year of birth as around 1832.
Her two children were placed in a New Orleans Lutheran orphanage
sometime during or after the Civil War.

I am trying to create our family tree. I have been able to trace
back to our great grandfather, August W. BRUCH, born 29 Nov 1835;
died 31 Oct 1915. He was born and lived in the area around
Posen. My great grandmother was Wilhelmine KNAAK (KNAACK), born
18 Apr 1843; died 10 Feb 1936. The family all came to
Wisconsin around the 1880's and settled there. How do I go about
getting further earlier genealogy on them? I have most of the
more current information. Thank you for your assistance.

I am looking for information on (John?) August SCHOEN, born 31
December 1826, at Znin, Posen, Germany. He had two spouses. I do
not know the names. His children with his second spouse were:
Emelia, Maria, Herman, Julius, John August, and Wilhelm. Julius
came to the U.S.A. (Texas) about September 1890. He worked and
sent money home so his family could come to the USA (Texas).
My great grandparents John August SCHOEN, born 31 August 1867,
his wife, Emma Pauline HEBBE, born 28 September 1872 and son Otto
Carl, born 7 December 1891 immigrated to the USA (Texas) in
March, 1892. We were always told that my great grandfather (John
August) drove horses for the Kaiser. We do not know if this is
true. Thank you for any assistance.
I am also lookingh for Fredrick HEBBE, born at Berenfelder,
Germany and died at the age of 56 in Germany - occupation:
professor/teacher. He married Julianna WEGNER, born 30 December
1844 at Friedricksdorf, Posen and died 1 January 1902 at Travis
county, Texas USA. She immigrated to the U.S. in the late
1890's. Fredrick & Julianna HEBBE had ten children who
immigrated to Texas. Adolph Julius (8 April 1866); Ottilie
Emilie (21 March 1868); Gustav W. (11 December 1869); Emma
Pauline (28 September 1871 or 72); Ernst (1 September 1873);
Bertha (21 July 1875); August (December 1878); Martha (24
February 1880); Heinrich (19 April 1882); and Otto (24 May
1885).

I am seeking any information on Francis or Catherine (MALOK)
SLIVINSKI or their descendants. Francis was born in Poland about
1855 and died 14 April 1917 at Bay City, Michigan. Catherine was
born in Poland about 1851 and died 14 February 1897 at Bay City,
Michigan. They had six children: Andrew Martin (born 13 October
1879 in Poland, died 3 September 1952 at Minoqua, Wisconsin),
Mary (born in Poland and died in infancy), Louise, Michael,
Blanche, and Rose. The last four children were all born in
Michigan.

I am researching some of my wife's ancestors named WRZESINSKE.
The name is noble in Poland; there is a very large book written
about the WRZESINSKE (pronounced VREZinske, means September)
family. A family crest was made in the 13th century. There also
was a famous battle in 1410 against Germany; as the Polish king
was going around the battlefield, he found a wounded Polish
officer holding in his bowels. The king said he was sorry he
had to suffer so much. The officer replied: "My suffering is
nothing, I am happy to suffer for the Polish people." The king
called him a hero and would not forget him. The Polish officer
recovered and the king made him a noble prince and his family
too; the officer received a lot of property with a big old
palace on it. Today there is only a marker telling the story in
a state park.
Anton WRZESINSKE, born about 1850, emigrated from Waldo, Posen,
Prussia, about 1880 to Princeton, Wisconsin, and then around 1890
moved to Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. With his first wife, Catherine
JAGODZINSKI, he had three children; 1) Ella, born 11 March 1871,
died 29 October 1957, husband Ed O'CONNOR; they had two children.
2) Stella, born ??, husband ?? KOSLOWSKI; they had eight
children. 3) Joseph, born 19 March 1862, died 26 December 1918,
1st wife Francis GORZYNSKI, born 8 December 1875, died 14 March
1914; they had twelve children: a son, John, born 1 February
1893, is my wife's father. Anton's second wife, Agnes SKEBINSKI;
they had five children. 4) Mary, born 10 May 1877, died 12
February 1962, spouse Michael M. JEZYK, no issue. 5) Rose, born
17 September 1879, died 18 July 1964, spouse Lucas J. HARTL; they
had two children. 6) Walter, born 16 May 1880; he changed his
name to STANLEY; no further information. 7) Josephine, born 11
July 1884, died 10 November 1964, spouse Stanley J. WICHINSKI; no
issue. 8) Victoria, born 13 September 1886, died 1 March 1977,
spouse Ignatz J. KREZINSKI; no issue.

I am trying to do some research on my husband's family. Ludwig
HILSCHER, born in 1832 at Beziak (?),Posen, Germany, was my
husband's great-grandfather. His wife's name was Pauline
Wilhemina WEIDEMANN HILSCHER. She was born at Runow, Germany.
My husband and his brother and their children are the only
remaining descendants. All of us are living in Texas, USA. We
have not found any listing of the town that is on his tombstone:
"Beziak" Posen, Germany. Any lead or connection would be greatly
appreciated.

My great-great grandfather was Freidrich Julius MITTELSTAEDT
(MITTELSTÄDT / MITTELSTADT), spelled any number of ways,
born at Straduhn in Prussia (now Posen) in July 1827, confirmed
in the Anglican church in Schoenlanke in April of 1841,
immigrated to the US in 1857, first to Wisconsin and then to Iowa
where he married twice. The family story is that he had been
orphaned while very young and raised by an uncle; however I have
not been able to find any record in the LDS files from churches
in the area of his birth or confimation although we have a copy
of the confimation record. There are a number of MITTELSTAEDT
names in the LDS microfilms in the 1827 and l841 time frames -
but no Friedrich Julius. I am searching for his parents and
siblings names, and for any record that might include their
names. I already have his civil war records; have not found any
immigration records yet - or when he became a citizen. I am more
than willing to do whatever research is necessary and would like
some suggestions from those of you who have "been there, done
that" as to what would be the best way for me to go now. And of
course, if any of you are connected to this family, I would be
delighted to hear from you.
Listing any and all spellings of your Mittelstadt surname is
critical to being able to connect with other researchers of the
various branches of your ancestors. I have added two other
obvious spellings to help Germanic browsers, but you may want to
revise and extend your message above to include the others as
well as what you know of Friedrich Julius's wife (including her
maiden name) and religion if known. Each piece of imformation is
important in acquiring help.

I am researching any and all information about my great
grandparents, August Friedrich Ludwig SCHWARK, born 17 March
1855, at Gross Kotten, Netzekreis, Posen and Bertha LECHNER, born
24 December 1859, also from Gross Kotten. They immigrated in
1886 via New York with a son, Fredrich, and daughter, Martha (who
died on arrival to New York). They further immigrated to Chicago
- I assume to be near family. My great grandfather was a
founding member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Chicago. They
later moved to Glenview Illinois and lived on Railroad Avenue
(now Lehigh Avenue) to be near their children and farmed there
for many years. They were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church in
Glenview. August died in 1940. Bertha died in 1935. Both are
buried in St. Luke's (Lucas) Cemetery at Chicago. Children
included: Fredrick, August, Jr., William, Louise, Emma, Clara,
Leona, Betty, and an adopted child, Donald (Norris).
I am specifically looking for other family members and
information - brothers, sisters, etc., who may have immigrated
earlier and may have resided in northern Illinois or Wisconsin.
Any living relatives, please contact me. I also need information
on how to contact resources in Germany for information on Gross
Kotten and its history.

eMail address: fritz.neumann@post.tele.dk
I am searching for information about my great-grandfather, Fritz
NEUMANN, who lived in Posen (unknown if town or country). He was
in the military and in 1862 he was given a glass, possibly made
by the famous Czech glass-maker B. Egermann. It was presented at
a private occasion, but the reason is unknown. The inscription
on the glass says: "Die Ehre fuer mich, mein Hertz fuer Dich,
mein Leben den Koenig und meine Seele Gott. FN Erinnerung um
1862." His wife was given, as an pension, a post office position
in the town of Rostarschewo. I have a picture of the house, the
old lady and two postmen. A sign on the wall says "Kaiserliche
Postagentur." The picture is from about 1890 - 1900. The only
exact information I have is that he had a son in 1859 at
Landsberg (Brandenburg). Can anyone give me any further
information about these persons, the glass or the postoffice? I
will be very happy to hear from you.
PARDUHN, Jerry

I would like to get involved with research in the Posen area. I
am very new at this and need much help. I have some research
from the Posen area, and could share if any one has a need. My
grandfather, August Wilhelm PARDUHN, was born 8 November 1857 at
Kazmierovo, Posen. His father, Friedrich PARDUHN, was born about
1829, and married Louisa PIEKARSKA. After this I ran into a
solid wall. If you could give me any ideas or help I would be
very grateful. I have some two or three hundred surnames in my
file, and they are: PARDUHN -- PARDUN -- PARDON.

I am interested in learning about the parents and siblings of my
great-great grandmother, Augusta Emelie KLOPSCH. She was married
to James BRIGGS in the German Evangelical Consistitory at New
Orleans, Louisiana, USA in October 1848. Her marriage
certificate shows she was born at Birnbaum, Andewatre, Posen,
Prussia. The 1860 US Federal census of New Orleans records her
age as 28 years, indicating she was born about 1832. She would
have been about 16 years old at the time of her marriage in 1848.
She and James died around 1865, although the exact date and
circumstances of their deaths are unknown. Their children, Henry
James and Catherina Amalia, born 1853 and 1854, were placed in a
Lutheran orphanage. I have been unable to find any information
regarding my great-great grandmother's immigration, nor are there
any families with this surname now living in the New Orleans
area. I would appreciate any help on how I might research this
further.
RJSTASIOWSKI, Janet
eMail address: RJSTASIOWSKI@aol.com
I am researching my grandparents Joseph PORDON / PORDUM (he died
1920) and Josephine PORDON / PORDUM (she died in 1950). Joseph
was from Posen and came to the USA with a brother whose name may
have been Frank or Francis. They immigrated early 1900 and
settled in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Joesphine's maiden name was
CEBULSKI. (She had a sister by the name of Checora, but I am not
sure if that is a first or last name, who later lived at Dickson
City, Pennsylvania). Joseph and Josephine PORDON had five
children: Anna, William, Thomas, Claire, and Theresa.
STUBBE, Michael
eMail address: info@stuebbe-vlotho.de
I'm looking for the surnames STUEBBE, STIBBE, or STIEBBE in the
area of Chodziesen (Kolmar), Posen. Most of my family members
were "Tuchmachermeister" and they lived in the following areas:
Budsin, Jankendorf, Radwonke, Margonin, Suprasl, and Choroszcz.
Does anyone know anything about the following individuals?
- Paul STIEBBE (STUEBBE), Tuchmachermeister at Chodziesen, born
before 1812 (Evangelical Luthern)
- Samuel Nathanael STIEBBE (STUEBBE), Tuchmachermeister and
Schullehrer (teacher) in Budsin, Radewunke and
Margonin, born before 1785 and died after 1839 (Evangelical
Luthern). He married Anna Rosina LUECK, born at Margonin in 1782
and died in Chodziesen 01 March 1836. Her father was Michael
LUECK, Leinenweber at Margonin.
- Samuel STUEBBE (STIBBE), Tuchmachermeister, born in
Chodziesen between 1817 and 1820 and died in Choroszcz 16
February 1857. He married Rosina Rosalie PASCHAPP (PASZAP) after
1870 (Roman Catholic).
One member of my family, August Hugo STUEBBE, born 05 May
1887, at Suprasl near Bialystok (Evangelical Luthern) settled
down at Armawir in Russia, near the "Schwarzes Meer" (Black Sea).
He was married and he had two or three children. Perhaps they
immigrated to the USA?

I am researching the family of my grandfather, Fritz Emil PETERS,
born 30 March 1886 at Wasserstrasse 4, Schneidemühl
([Schneidemuehl / Schneidemuhl] now Pila, Poland), Kreis Kolmar,
Province Posen. He was baptized in the Christus Kirche
(Altmarktplatz), Schneidemühl, Evangelical. His mother was
Pauline Cecelia PETERS (nee KR&UGER [KRUEGER / KRUGER]), born 3
November 1859 at Schneidemühl. His father was Otto Emil
Albert PETERS, born at Usch (10 kilometers south of
Schneidemühl / Pila), date unknown. The mother of Pauline
was Julia KR&UGER ([KRUEGER / KRUGER] nee REIHN), born 22 June
1825 at Schneidemühl / Pila. Grandmother, mother and son
immigrated to the USA via Hamburg, the ship "Circassia" arriving
at Wards Island on 15 September 1887 and eventually settling in
Buffalo, New York. All three eventually were buried in or near
Buffalo. I would like to find any information possible on the
death of Otto Emil PETERS (he did not emigrate to the US) and any
other information on either the PETERS, KR&UGER (KRUEGER /
KRUGER) or REIHN families from this area.
WALL, John W.

eMail address:
My great-grandparents GIESWEIN and PINNECKER told everyone in our
family (including their 10 children and many grandchildren) they
were from Pushen, Germany via Russia. We've never known how to
spell Pushen. This was always spoken in broken English. One
entry states, Pushen, Klugey, while one other shows Tushen and
another states Prussia. However my great-grandparents always
said "Pushen, Germany." They moved from Pushen, German to Russia
about 1873. They emigrated to the US in 1886. Because of those
dates I think they would have said they were from Prussia rather
than Germany if Posen is where they were from. Could this be the
Pushen, Germany we were looking for? Any help would be greatly
appreciated.
I've been looking at a village in Germany named Stocken-Puschen;
this looked promising at first but after 3 years of writing to
city officials and churches I've totally struck out. The
spelling of the family name GIESWEIN has been fairly consistent,
but I have also seen it spelled GESWEIN and GESSWEIN. The
spelling for PINNECKER has been very diverse. I've seen it
spelled at least 6 different ways: PINAGER, PEANECKER, PINECKER,
PINACKER, PINACHE. I have adopted the spelling PINNECKER, which
I suspect is close to the correct spelling, but I have no hard
evidence that this is the correct spelling. The first and middle
names of everyone listed below is probably some sort of an
Americanized spelling. In many cases these people were called by
their middle names more than their first names. Therefore those
shown with only one first name might actually be a middle
name.
Generation No. 1: 1. Karl Fredrick K GIESWEIN was born 1819 at
Puschen, Germany? and died at Gnadenfeld, Russia or Moor, Russia?
2. Jake (Jacob) PINNECKER was probably born in Puschen, Germany
about the same time period.
Generation No. 2: 2. John Fredrick GIESWEIN was born 17 August
1845 at Puschen, Germany, and died 18 April 1932 at Wilsey,
Kansas. He lived at Moor and Gnadenfeld, Russia in the mid to
late 1800s. 3. Elizabeth MITCHELL GIESWEIN was born 1849 at
Puschen, Germany, and died 1875 at Gnadenfeld, Russia? or Moor,
Russia? John Fredrick GIESWEIN and Elizabeth MITCHELL were
married 1864 in Germany (probably in Puschen). 4. Anna Mary
PINNECKER was born 4 November 1857 at Puschen, Germany and died
19 October 1912, at Garden City, Kansas. She lived at Moor and
Gnadenfeld, Russia in mid to late 1800s. 5. Mary PINNECKER was
born 1864 at Puschen, Germany and died in 1945 in Ness County,
Kansas. She lived at Moor and Gnadenfeld, Russia in the mid to
late 1800s. 6. Elizaabeth PINNECKER was born on 23 February 1868
at Puschen, Germany and died 2 March 1944 at Larned, Kansas. She
lived at Moor and Gnadenfeld, Russia in mid- to late 1800s.
Generation No. 3: Children of John GIESWEIN and Elizabeth
MITCHELL GIESWEIN are: 7. Elizabeth GIESWEIN was born 1865 at
Puschen, Germany (Prussia) and probably died in Russia. She
lived at Moor and Gnadenfeld, Russia in the mid to late 1800s.
8. HENRY GIESWEIN was born 1867 qt Puschen, Germany (Prussia) and
died at Denver, Colorado. He lived at Moor and Gnadenfeld,
Russia in mid to late 1800s. 9. Mary Elizabeth GIESWEIN was born
10 October 1870 at Moor or Gnadenfeld, Russia and died 23 April
1929 at Topeka, Kansas.

I would like to re-submit a search for my grandparents...
Heinrich (Henry) GERTH and wife Wilhelmina SCHULLER lived in
Posen about 1840-1868. I do not know the name of their village.
He was probably a farmer. Children: Agnes (born 1858), Mary
(born 1860), Charles (born 1863), and William (born 1864). The
GERTH family immigrated to the US in 1868 and lived at Chicago,
Illinois. Mary married Julius Gustave ERDMANN at Chicago in
1881.
