ALCORN, Pam
eMail address: alcorn@misslink.net
Jelena KONJEVIC immigrated to the US in 1911, as the wife of Simo
(Sam) RAJKOVIC. They had three
children: Milan, Rajko, and Radjoka. Simo was shot for stealing
a chicken two weeks before my father,
Danilo, was born in 1915 in Rock Island county, Illinois.
Through the net, I have found my father's family in
Erdevrk and Nestin in Vojvodina. My father was adopted out as an
infant. He would like to find his siblings,
who may have gone by their step-father, Jivan MAKSIMOVIC's name.
There were two more sons born to
Jivan and Jelena: Zarko and Alesandar. It is possible that some
of the relatives are in the Hammond, Indiana
area. Please contact me with any information.
BILAFER, Patricia
eMail address: powermark@earthlink.net
(Roman Catholic)
I am doing research on my husband's family - BILAFER - from Strp
(near Perast) on the Bay of Kotor. I believe this area at one
time was in Croatia but is now part of Montenegro. Bogdan
(Robert) BILAFER (born 1888) emigrated to Boston to join two of
his brothers (possibly Mato and Luka) circa 1910. A few years
later he came to San Francisco where he spent the rest of his
life. He had another brother Pero. The family operated a
spice/wine store in Strp. The family is Catholic. Perhaps
someone knows a church or parish in that area I could contact.
Bogdan was the only brother who stayed in the USA. There are
family members on the East Coast but they do not have information
about the family. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
BITTORIE, Kay
eMail address: j-k.bittorie@worldnet.att.net
I am looking for information about Joseph George BITTORIE and
Mary Margaret FLYNAC BITTORIE, who arrived at Ellis Island, USA
in 1900. Family legend says they emigrated from Croatia
(possibly the Austro-Hungarian Empire). BITTORIE is an
Americanized name. According to the social security application
of Joseph George BITTORIE, he was born at Bosilquos, Yugoslavia.
I have searched for this town but cannot find it. If it was
spelled like they thought he was pronouncing it, can someone tell
me what town it really could be? Mary Margaret FLYNAC / FLOJHIC
? Was born at Vienna, Austria along with son, Frank Charles
BITTORIE (born at Vienna, Austria 3 March 1896) and daughter,
Anna Elizabeth BITTORIE (born in Croatia 1899) who traveled with
him. I am also seeking the original name Americanized to
BITTORIE, date, ship and port of departure. ANY suggestions,
ideas and help will be GREATLY appreciated. My Surnames are
BITTORIE, BITORAJ, BITORAJAC, FLYNAC, FLOJHIC and STOKIN
BOZICEVICH, Franca
eMail address: dlpub@erols.com
I am looking for anyone named BOZICEVICH in Croatia related to
Ivan, Katie, Mattu, or Lucas. Zagreb, Vinkovci, and Karlova are
the areas living relatives are said to be residing. Thank-you in
advance.
BUBAN, Tony
eMail address: tbuban@myriad.net
I am seeking information on our family name BUBAN or BUBANJ or
BUBANY. My grandfather emigrated into the US from Fuzinia around
1900. His name was Anton BUBAN and he settled near Enterprise,
Iowa.
COMPTON, Dave
eMail address: pbody@blackduck.net
I am looking for other relatives of my Uncle Rt. Rev. Msgr.
Martin Davorin KRMPOTIC who was born at Senj, Croatia 8 November
1867. He emigrated to the United States in 1901. He was the
Pastor of St. John the Baptist parish at Kansas City, Kansas from
1902 until his death in 1931.
CROCKER, Howard and Maureen
eMail address: crocker@qadas.com
I am seeking any information about my grandparents and
great-grandparents. Michael KASUNIC and Theresa SPEHAR. They
lived and married in or near Duga Gora, Croatia. I don't know the
marriage date. Michael was born in 1877 ? to Matthew and Manda
and died 24 June 1934 at Cleveland, Ohio. Theresa was born 4
October 1879 at Duga Gora to Matthew and Mary and died 19
November 1943 at Cleveland, Ohio. They came to America in about
1903 and settled at Benwood, West Virginia near Wheeling. Any
information would be greatly appreciated.
DESHOTEL, Kellie SIFFER
eMail address: KellBellll@aol.com
Marton POLAKOVICZ / POLAKOVICH, Marton married Annaval JANSAKOVA
23 November 1876 at Vag Szerdahely, Czechoslovakia, where son
POLAKOVIC, was born 29 July 1877. Stefan emigrqed to Osso,
Michigan and became a naturalized citizen of the United States on
7 September 1927 at Carleton, Michigan. He had five sons,
Steven, James, William, Frank and John and a daughter, Helen. I
have been unable to obtain any other information on POLAKOVICH.
I have been told by numerous sources that it is a Croatian name,
not Czech and would like to list it. I'm not educated on the
history of these countries and have been unable to locate any
literature. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to
all.
DUBOVICH, Steve
eMail address: voyageur@netnitco.net
I'm looking for information on possible relatives living near
Zagreb. My grandmother (Rose VERBONATZ) left Croatia and came to
America around 1908. She met my grandfather (George DUBOVICH) in
Milwaukee Wisconsin and they settled in northern Minnesota. My
grandfather's name was DUBIAC and was changed to DUBOVICH upon
his arrival to the United States. He was from Bosnia and died
in
1947. My grandmother passed away in 1985. I was told by an aunt
that my grandmother was from a village near Zagreb and she was
Roman Catholic.
FORENPOHAR, John
eMail address: FORENPOHAR@aol.com
John FORENPOHAR was born at Mrkapal, Croatia 27 December 1881. I
don't know when he came to the U.S. He died at Cle Elum,
Washington 20 October 1948. He married Pauline YADRO. She was
born at Brista Va Drago which I believe is now called Rieste,
Croatia 21 June 1889. I was told John came first and sent for her
to follow them. We have been told he first came to Kalamazoo,
Michigan and he was a miner. Many Croats moved to the Cle
Elum/Roslyn area to work in the mines for N.W. Mining Co. mining
coal. John and Pauline had 7 children: Mary, born 25 January
1906; Charles, born 7 September 1907; Emma, born 10 July 1910;
John, my grandfather, born 10 May 1911; Edna, born 22 February
1913; Eva born 21 December 1914; Polly, born 19 February 1918;
and Ann, born 18 December 1920. Most of them were born in Ronald
(just up the road a piece from Roslyn) but at least Ann was born
on Peoh Point, a small farming community outside of Cle Elum
where John and Pauline had a dairy.
I have information on most of their children but will concentrate
on John, my grandfather. He married Margaret Emma BANNISTER at
Seattle on 16 July 1934. They had 5 children. My father, Vernon
ElRoy FORENPOHAR is the oldest, born at Roslyn 29 January, 1935;
Wayne, born 26 May 1937, died 27 May 1937 at Roslyn; Marjorie
Jean, born 13 October 1938 at Roslyn; John Wayne, born 23
November 1940 at Palmer, Alaska; and Allen Matthew, born 12
November 1943 at Ellensburg, Washington.
My father married Andrea Bernice McDONALD 24 June 1961 at Roslyn.
They moved to Yakima. They had 6 children. John Peter, born 13
May 1962 at Ellensburg, Washington; Vernon ElRoy Jr., born 19 May
1965; Margaret Grace, born Sept. 1, 1968; Bruce Jones born 23
July 1970; Meloney JoLyn, born 8 June 1972; and Evon Joseph, born
7 September 1973 - still born; I found church records (I think
the Roman Catholic Church) from Mrkapal in the Morman Genealogy
library (FHL) that spell it like we do. However the records are
in Latin (I think) and I can't read them but did recognize the
name.
HERRERA, Eliana
eMail address: eherrera@gloria.com.pe
I am doing a research of my husband's ancestors. His father,
Drago Misic WEGER, was born at Zagreb in 1920. He had 2
brothers: Kruno and Ratko, who are dead, the same as his father
and we don't know if they had children. We would like to know if
my husband has cousins, uncles or aunts. We will appreciate your
help if you know any relatives.
JAHN, Pat
eMail address:MrsPatJahn@aol.com
My grandparents are Joseph YERCICH (born 1882 at Kastel-Sucurac,
died 1942 Chicago, Illinois) and Mary PARATRK - possibly spelled
PAVLTIC - (died Chicago about 1920). Both died before I was born
so I know almost nothing about them. Joseph had three brothers:
Dominick born 1877; Michael and Jerome JERCICK. For some reason,
some members of the family spelled the surname YERCICH and others
JERCICK or JERCICH. Any help will be appreciated.
JANCSO, Ladislaus
eMail address: l.jancso@inet.netpoint.com.br
I am searching for a branch of my family JANCSO that lived around
the change of the century in Zagreb (originally from
Transylvania, then Nove Mesto, Vukovar and finally Ruma). One of
the Zagreber branch was Public Prosecutor. I can supply some
(very little) additional information in case somebody can be of
help. Also of great interest for me are the Names EGERSDORFER,
DANK, SZALAY, SATARIC, SZINKOVICH, LATINOVIC (Zagreb, Varazdin,
Vukovar, Ruma) and BACHICH de RECINA (Zagreb, Rijeka). I am
grateful for any information.
KLEIN, Christine

My great-grandfather, Petar Josip BRNJAS, was born 26 May 1870 at
Liposcak, Bosiljevo, Croatia. He emigrated to the United States
in 1888, and worked for awhile at Aliquippa / McKeesport
Pennsylvania before returning to Bosiljevo. He married Marija
BUKOVAC/BUCKOVATZ and returned to the United States in 1899,
settling at Anaconda, Montana. He died 4 August 1946. His
parents were Petar BRNJAS (born 26 August 1845) and Ana BARCIC
(born 1850) at Bosiljevo. The senior Petar BRNJAS was the son of
Stjepan BRNJAS (born 1827) and Bara BRLETIC (born 1829), also of
Bosiljevo. I am desperately trying to get the name and address
of the Catholic Church in Bosiljevo. Petar Josip BRNJAS changed
his name to Peter Berness after he received his U.S. citizenship.
If anyone can help me to get that information or recognizes these
names, please contact me.
KOMOROWSKI, M. E.
eMail address: robdiane@metro.net
I am researching the Croatian surnames of BADOVINAC, SAJATOVICH,
and STIMAC (STIMATZ). Marko BADOVINAC was born about 1840 at
Badovinci, Zumberak, Croatia. He married 1) about 1865, and had
a son, Marco, born 1866 at Badovinci. He married 2) about
1870 to Yela Badovinac, and had three children: Mada (Mary) born
about 1871 at Badovinci, Jonko (John), born about 1876 at
Badovinci, and Jure (George), born 1881 at Badovinci. George
later Americanized the name to BADOVINATZ. Marco also emigrated
to the United States and had a family. Nickola SAJATOVICH born
about 1860 at Zumberak, Zumberak, Croatia, married Angja STIMAC
(STIMATZ), and had three children: Nickola born about 1890 at
Zumberak, died about 1905 in Croatia, Daniel (Dan) born 1892 at
Zumberak, and Yela (Ella) born 1894. Ella emigrated to the
United States, and married George BADOVINATZ, and settled in
Montana. Any information you have on these names would be
helpful.

Kataina PALIAN, born 1878 at Croatia, was the daughter of Ivan
PALIAN and Ana BADAKAL ?/ BADKAL. She married Evan TURKALY, son
of Josep TURKALY and Marija VUKOIC / VUKIC. They emigrated to
the USA circa 1905, leaving behind two young children. Daughter
Marija married a man named FRANKOVIC. Marija's daughter, Anka
FRANKOVIC, married a man named STANKOVICH. She is rumored to
have descendants that moved the Chicago area circa 1992.
Josef RUZIC was born circa 1893 in Croatia; his parents are
unknown. The family ran a winery in Fiume (now Rijeka).
Siblings include Helena Margaret RUZIC, Anthony or Andrew, and
several more brothers (names unknown). Surname was Americanized
to RUSSICK at Ellis Island. Josef married Hazel SKAGGS on 30
March 1935 at Huntington, Cabell county WV. They came to the USA
circa 1912 via the Canard Lines. At least one sibling remained
in the USA also: Helena Margaret. She is rumored to have settled
around Youngstown, PA. Brothers who came to the USA are rumored
to have all returned to Europe prior to WW II - then all contact
was lost during the war. Thank you.

Frances had two known brother and sisters, Ignatous and Anna also
living in US. Nicholas and Frances had two sons, Frank George
LOVREKOVIC (born 1920) and Joseph Steven LOVREKOVIC, born 1928.
We do not have much information about Nicholas and Frances, and
do not know their parents names at this time.
MAY, John

eMail address: 65@aol.com
My great-grandfather's name was Ignac LRHPAMER. He came to the
U.S. about 1893-5 from Rude, near Zagreb (then a part of the
Austrian Empire). He was born 14 February 1876, and his
baptismal certificate says he was christened at Sv. Barbare
church. His parents are listed Stjepan LEHPAMER and Doreteja
TETRIC. There is also a word following the father's name, which
looks like "poljodjelac" but I don't know what that means. Under
"Prebivaliste i nadleznost" it reads: Rude br. 161 The family
owned property in the area, and Ignac had sisters. I don't know
of any brothers, but there may have been one. The name LEHPAMER
is quite uncommon, and doesn't really sound Croatian. Does
anyone know what it means?
I know that the family owned a vineyard, and two of Ignac
LEHPAMER's sisters remained in Croatia and took over the vineyard
when their parents died. If anyone can help with information
about this family, or can direct me in how to find more
information from the U.S., I would be very appreciative. I only
speak English, so any guidance in following my Hrvatska roots
would be wonderful!

Lovre MEJASKI married Barbara BAYACIC / BALOIVICH / BANYOVAC in
Croatia. There are three known children born in Croatia who
emigrated to US: (1) John MEJASKI was born 2 April 1884 at
Barilovic and emigrated to the US in 1896 (stowaway?). He
changed his surname to MARKEY and died 23 July 1945 in Bond
county Illinois. There were 5 children; he was a coal miner. (2)
Magdalena MEJASKI was born 10 March 1887 at or near Mrzlo Polje.
Married Ivan CAR (anglicized to John CARR) about 1902 at or near
Karlovac. They emigrated to the US about 1913. She died 3
September 1942 at Pittsburgh, PA. There were 12 children. (3)
Katarina, born 17 April 1889 at Barilovic. Arrived NYC 6
March
1907 aboard the ship "Kaiser Wilhelm II". She married Pete
SVILIVICIC (anglicised to SALOVICH) about 1907 probably in
Illinois. She was said to be a "sent-for-bride." She died in
Macoupin county, Illinois, 29 April 1971. There were 8 children.
Note: when "Kata" emigrated to US in 1907, her father, Lovre, was
living at Mt. Olive, Illinois, according to the passenger list.
Family tradition says Lovre returned to Croatia where he died.
The family was Roman Catholic.

Theodore LONTCHAR, born at Podborje (Gornji Daruvar) 23 February
1883, emigrated to the USA prior to 1903 when he was working in
Elizabeth, Allegheny county, Pennsylvania as a miner. The family
grew and relocated to Akron, Ohio. Theodore was married to Anica
KOPKA (born 2 August 1882 somewhere in Austria-Hungary.) Her
parents were Wasil KOPKA and Ana HOMZA. Theodore's parents,
Stevo LONCAR and Jelena KAPETANOVIC were still in Podborje. I
would love to hear from anyone familiar with Daruvar or any of
these surnames. It might be nice to find some potential parishes
to obtain records from.

I am looking for any information regarding the ancestors of Marko
PAPA (born 9 March 1902 at Jakovlje, Croatia; died 19 October
1958 at Zagreb, Croatia) and his wife Ana KUS (born 30 August
1911 at Okoli, Croatia (?); died 15 October 1984 at Zagreb,
Croatia). They had five children who lived; by birth order they

PARKER-BOZYLINSKI, Joyce
eMail address: joycesteve@email.msn.com
I am looking for information on the following surnames: SNELLER,
PELENKA, MARJERLE and PERKO. My grandfather (Rudolph SNELLER)
and his mother (Anne who's last name was either PELENKA or
MARJERLE) lived at Crested Butte, Colorado where he was a miner.
Records indicate she emigrated to the U.S. in 1890 and he was
born in 1880. I don't know what happened to his father John or
George (different names on different records). I believe they
came from either the Zagreb or Karlovac area. My great
grandmother Anne's sister Katherine was married to a PERKO and
they owned a mercantile store at Crested Butte, Colorado.
PERRY, David
eMail address: dbperry@yesic.com
I am trying to get some information about my Croatian ancestry.
I know very little about my grandparents so the information that
I can give you is very sparse. My grandmother's name (not sure
of the spelling) was Lubitsa SHERIC. She was born at, I believe,
Zagreb in 1919 and had emigrated to Canada in 1938. She died at
St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada in 1995. My grandfather's name was
Mathew FANYECK (or FANYEK) and was born in 1898. I don't
know which city or when he had emigrated to Canada, but, I know
that it was many years before my grandmother. I had heard that
he had been married once before marrying my grandmother. He died
in 1953 or 1954. Any help is appreciated.
POPEC, Drago

Branko and sister Stefica. We lived at Ovcara, near Cepin in
Slavonija, Croatia until 1969. My grandparent's names were Mato

deceased. I would appreciate if any one with information on
these names, or who also have the same surname, contacts me.

My grandfather, first name Ivan, was born 23 June 1883, at Spisic
Bukovica, Croatia, according to church records of his marriage at
Ibitinga (SP), Brazil on 12 October 1907. His parents were
Martin VELLICHA and Anna MARCHETTE (she died prior to my
ancestors emigratted into Brazil; I don't know when). Martin
married Caterine (maiden surname unknown). Martin, Caterine,
Ivan and Maria (Martin and Caterine's daugther) emigrated to
Brazil, arrivibg 4 December 1899, on the ship "Guernica". My
grandmother, Maria RACHAN, also was born in Spisic Bukovica, but
I don't know her date of birth (around 1886/1887). Her parents
were Matheus RACHAN and Catharina LELIK (or LELIGH). They also
emigrated to Brazil (I don't know when). Perhaps they came with
the Martin family. I hope to find out more abou my surname.
The spelling WELLICHAN is used in Brazil by every Ivan and
Maria's children, may be a derivation another surname or
adaptation to Portuguese Language (where W sounds like V). My
grandfather used for himself the spelling VELLICH, VELLICHAN,
VELLICHIO and WILLICHAM. Is it possible that the Roman Catholic
church records of my grandfather's birth or the official civil
transcripts of birth might show his surname as it was originally
spelled in Croatian ? How can I get these records?
Still about Spisic Bukovica, I have a letter dated 2 February
1948 (from Krems, Arnstein 74, Post Voitsberg, Styria - Austria
), sent by Maria KOPP to her nephew Pl_nio, my uncle, with who
she exchanged a few letters and photos during the years 194? To
1948. She wrote about her brother Franz, that year living in
Spisic Bukovica, near Agram (Zagreb today ?). I would like make
contact with any relatives that still living at Spisic Bukovica
area. I would like learn more about Spisic Bukovica, near
Virovitica, or are there other cities in Croatia with the same
name?. If anyone can help, I would be grateful.

My grandparents came to this country USA about the early 1900,
don't know where they came in yet still searching. I went to the
church where they married and the priest game this information
about them: Peter ZORNJAK from Zlijebac, Brdovac, Son of George
and Ana nee' ANTOLIC, born in 1881. That is all the information
I have on him. My grandmother Helen TUSINEC, Sveti, Samobor,
Daughter of Martin and Anastasia was born 1883, so if anybody
can
