UKRANIAN ARCHIVE SITUATION
Blitz has been working with
archivists in the following archives, Kamenets-Podolski, Khmelnitsk,
Zhitomir and Odessa. At this time, due to different ongoing situations, we
have been having much difficulties working to complete searches.
The situation in Ukraine is not stable at this time. There was a disorder
related to the Presidential elections about two months. Now with the new
President, the structure of administration has been changing. To add to
this instability, there are problems with electricity, as has been the case
in the last few years. Our Blitz office in St.
Petersburg has had problems with e-mail communications to our Ukrainian
researchers in Kamenets-Podolski, Khmelnitsk, Zhitomir, Odessa. One of our
Ukrainian researchers told us that some archival employees fear
participating in commercial works at this time. However, most likely this
fear will pass with time and when the political situation calms down.
We can only hope and be patient with works in this region. Blitz will post
updates on this situation as they become available.
For inquiries on this or
research questions, please contact Elena Tsvetkova, St. Petersburg office
