I am seeking information about my great grandfather who
apparently bypassed authorities in emigrating from Europe and
entering the United States. Oscar (Oskar) GSCHWIND, born at
Battwil, Solothurn Province, Switzerland, married Margaret
SCHMIDT. They settled at LaCrosse, Wisconsin and died there.
Sons include John Arthur (Art) GSCHWIND (born 1908); Afred

I am looking for information on the relatives of Andrew Jacob
KAESER, born 14 July 14 1839 at Bern, Switzerland and died 27
September 1931 at Sacramento, California. He married Marie Anna
or Anna Marie FREY born 14 February 1839 at Argue,
Switzerland and died 31 July 1931 at Sacramento, California.
They had 16 children. 13 were born at Sacramento, California
from 1868 to 1883. I believe they emigrated from Switzerland in
1866 or 1867. They had 3 children when they came to the US. I
am the last Kaeser in my family living. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.
KASER-NICOLINI, Dana

Zurich, Switzerland with their 8 children and came to Ohio in
1851. John died at Van Wert, Ohio, 32 days after landing

My grandfather was from Switzerland and I am trying to find his
town of origin. His name is Christian FEUERS. He was born in
1803. His wife's name was Catherine FEUERS (maiden name unknown).
She was born in 1808, also in Switzerland. They had three
children, Margaret FEUERS born in 1833 in Switzerland; John
FEUERS born in 1843 in Switzerland; and Peter FEUERS born in 1848
in Pennsylvania, USA. I believe that they immigrated to America
between 1843 and 1848. I believe that they were Lutherans but am
not sure of that. Any information will be greatly
appreciated.

My great great grandfather was Hans Georg EHRAT, born 27 June
1819 at Lohn, Switzerland, the son of Johannes and Barbara
(RUHLIE) EHRAT. He first married Maria Elisabetha RUHLIE on 20
November 1845. She was born 4 October 1818. She died shortly
afterward (3 October 1847). There were no known children. He
then married for a second time to a Katherina SCHLATTER, born at
Buttenhardt, Switzerland, on 1 December 1827. They were married
15 March 1849. All twelve of their children were born in Lohn,
Switzerland between the years of 1850 and 1868. (Three of them
died young and were buried in Switzerland). Hans Georg EHRAT was
a part owner/operator of a Tile and Brick Factory located in the
village of Lohn. The other partners in this business arrangement
were Jacob SCHLATTER and Michael BUHRER. This Hans Georg EHRAT
family were active members of the only church in Lohn. Their
children were baptized there and their older children were
confirmed there by Pastor Alexander Beck. This Hans Georg EHRAT
family left their Swiss homeland 13 March 1871 to eimmigrate to
America. Their youngest son, three year old Christian EHRAT, was
left behind in the care of Pastor Beck and his wife. Christian
rejoined his family in America when he was eleven years of age.
This EHRAT family settled on an 80 acre farm in Fayette county,
Illinois, near Vandalia, and they were faithful members of the
Lutheran Church.
My other Swiss great great grandfather was Johannes BUHRER /
BUEHRER. He was born 3 May 1825 at Altorf, Switzerland. In the
year of 1845 he married Maria M. METZGER, who was also from
Altorf. She was born 24 May 1824. They had five children who
were all born in Switzerland. One son (Johannes BUHRER), died
young, and was buried in Switzerland. This BUHRER couple
immigrated to America with their four daughters (via New York),
in either 1881 or 1883. They also settled on a farm in Fayette
county, Illinois, and they were members of the Lutheran faith. My
other Swiss ancestor was Johann METZGER brother of Maria who
married Johannes BUHRER. He was born in 1821, and he married
Maria Magdalena STIEL, who was born 14 May 1820. They had a total
of twelve children, and this family departed for America on May
20, 1863, immigrating aboard a ship named "Goshen." They first
landed at New York City, and later arrived at Chicago by train on
4 July 1863. They also settled on a farm in Fayette county,
Illinois, and they were active members of the Lutheran Church.
These BUHRER'S, EHRAT'S & SCHLATTER'S who settled in Fayette
county, Illinois, had relatives, (that came from the same Swiss
Canton of Schaffhausen), who settled in Fulton County, Ohio.
However, the exact relationship has not yet been determined.

I am looking for information on my great grandfather Felix KUHN
born 28 May 1846 at Wallisellen, Switzerland. His first wife was
Anna KUHN who was born in 1851. She was the daughter of Rudolf
KUHN and Anna BERGMAN. Anna KUHN died 19 April 1872 while giving
birth to Jacob KUHN. Felix then married Katharina KAGI who was
born 22 November 1846. They immigrated to the United States
through the port of New York and eventually settled at Humboldt,
Kansas. Their children were Gotfried-Frederic Felix KUHN, born
30 June 1884 in New York; Katharina KUHN, born 1886 and married
Dr. Charles FOLLET; Albert KUHN, born 20 July 1892; Henery KUHN,
born 1888; and Elmer KUHN whose date of birth is unknown.
Gotfried-Frederic Felix KUHN, the son of Felix & Katerina KUHN,
married Bessie Ann Poe BARRETT who was a widow and had three
children; Willima BARRETT, born 1917; Etta Mae BARRETT, born
1911; and Dollie BARRETT, born 1913. Gottfried-Frederic Felix
KUHN and Bessie Ann Poe BARRETT KUHN had three children; Calvin
KUHN, born 30 April 1930; Katie Eileen KUHN, born 1 February
1925; and Harold Eugene KUHN, born 10 June 1931.

I am searching for the ancestors and birth village of Jacob
ROTHLISBERGER, probably born 15 September 1848 in Canton Bern.
His parents may have been Peter and Barbara ROTHLISBERGER. (I
question the correctness of my sources). He is first found in
the U.S. in 1885 at Houghton, Michigan. He was a farmer in an
area with very few Swiss immigrants. His nearest neighbors
though were also Swiss - ZURCHER and WEBER. I have wondered if
they were from the same village and/or relatives. We know of no
other relatives, either in the U.S. or Switzerland. Jacob died
27 October 1908. Jacob married Anna Theresa MUFF 2 July 1887 at
Hancock, Michigan. She was born on 13 April 1859 at Sheboygan,
Wisconsin. She died 2 July 1935 at Verona, Michigan. Their
children were (Jacob 1888-1888), Emma Caroline (1890-1985),
Johann Heinrich (1892-1893), Emma Theresa (1893-1944) and Jacob
Frederick (1898-1943). I'm not sure of Jacob's religion in
Switzerland. He was married in the German Lutheran Church. Even
though the pastor of that same church buried him - from Jacob's
house - his burial wasn't recorded in the church records. I
wonder if he wasn't really a member and that only because of his
wife, that he was married and buried from there. It gets further
muddled, when I've discovered that at least some ROTHLISBERGERS
in Switzerland were Mennonites and some were Catholics.
Furthermore, there is a family story that someone was Jewish. Was
it Jacob or was it one of his in-laws, the MUFFS, we don't know.
Any information would be appreciated.

I am looking for family connections to Giovanni GIANNINI (John
GIANNINI) born at Quinto, Ticino, Switzerland. He appeared in
Kingston, Ulster County, New York, in 1850, and married Caroline
WILSON. They had a daughter Jenny born about 1865. John was an
artist who found work painting frescoes for a New York hotel, and
may have descended from a family of artists or craftsmen. Any
help would be appreciated.
MACK, Joanne SCHMID

I am seeking information on great-great-grandfather, John SCHMID,
and wife Barbara ULRICH. I believe they emigrated from
Stammhiem, Canton Zurich, Switzerland between 1850-53. They
settled at Waumandee, Buffalo county, Wisconsin in 1856.
Children: Henrietta born 1850 in Switzerland; John, born 1853;
Herman, born 1857; Emil, born 1860; Elsie, born 1862; and
Caroline, born 1863 all the rest were born on a farm in Waumandee
Valley, Wisconsin. Henrietta married Joseph LEICHT born 1845
(Bavaria) in Fountain City, Wisconsin on 9 April 1870. The
LEICHT family records spelled the name SCHMIED, but the SCHMID
family records spelled it without the "E" as far back as we have
records. The LEICHT family settled at Winona, Minnesota. I have
a picture of Barbara which states, "first generation in the
United States, 1855." I don't know whether that means they
arrived in 1855 or the picture was taken in 1855. In the 1870's
John & Barbara's son Herman SCHMID had a business (VOSS, SCHMID &
CO.) at Arcadia, a town located between Waumandee and Fountain
City. Any information greatly appreciated
